How do you people find it?
I am wondering, where is the golden middle of things, how do you people find it. This could all be graphed and found that way, but what about non-numerical things?
For numerical example:
Car A starts travelling from Point A. The closer it gets to Point B, the cheaper the gas is. At one point, the car will halt because there is no more gas. When to fuel up?
For non-numerical example:
Lots (hours) of homework given to Student A. His friends invite him to a party. Does Student A do all the homework and be called geeky next day, or does he go to the party and get yelled at by the teacher the next day?
Please post your opinion on this.
Thanks.

With the student example - Do the homework. You will be called a geek or whatever, but who gives a crap what people think? They'll forget about it in a week. That homework you did, and the grades you get, will help you throughout your life.
as far as homework -- in high school, i was the one who didn't have to work to get **** done and make As, so i ended up goin to the parties. in college now, i can still make good grades, but i'm paying money for my GPA, not my BAC....
So you could answer both questions with a number (since machines only know numbers).
I think I am with fluffy on this one. What is golden middle exactly?
Actually, Pillsbury biscuits are so light and deliciously flakey that you don't need the aid of a knife to retrieve its magical golden innards. The layers should peel off very easily if they've been baked correctly.
Never heard of a "Golden Middle", but I have heard off a "Golden Section", it's a renaissance concept where they thought art could be explained as maths and there was an ideal set of mathematical proportions that all "great art" would reference..

Edit: I believe a few Boticellis and that famous Michelangelo anatomy sketch that you have seen are textbook examples of the theory. but I remain to be convinced..
Of course, a 2.8 with a knowledge of what the heck they're doing is better off than a 4.0 who is just good at taking tests. But below 3.0 it's hard, and below around 2.8 it's freakin' difficult. Especially in the tech market nowadays.
Oh, and the happy medium is you drink enough to get buzzed and still do the work later.
Study hard in college chaps, you'll have many years to **** around afterwards..
Seriously, while it can be great at the time, women, beer and pool will all still exist once you graduate with an excellent degree in a subject you love....
If you're looking for suggestions as to the dilemmas the real-world presents to us, I have learned (the hard way) over time that there is one simple, incredibly easy answer: stop analyzing everything and just let it go. Life is too short and far too unpredictable. Carpe diem. Have fun along the way, and just stay out of trouble. That isn't to say you should drop out of college and become an alcoholic, but don't stress out about the small stuff. It's not worth the effort, trust me.
when you said numerically, are you talking about halfing things (middle)? ie. 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8...; never gets to two ?
So let me sing you a line
So you outta take my picture
because I won't remember
Alice in Chains are sooooo not the best band ever, but they are top 10 easily....
Saw them at Barrowlands, Glasgow, absolutely fluffing rocked.
RIP Staley.
( Edit: should you find yerself on holiday or summat, Barras is a fabulous venue. Small enough to have atmosphere, big enough to be noisy, bar = 20m from centre of crowd, lovely.
Seriously , lovely venue, you can kill the time till it starts by buying "trial versions" of "things" at barraz market..:/
Christ knows who decided to put the toilets a mile away from the stage though..:/ )
explaination:
its basically where you have to find a balance between two decisions or things. example:
wether to do all your homework or go to all the parties. then the golden middleway is a balanced option with both included.
i hope this cleared things up.
Well in Buddhism there is this thing called the eight fold path, and everyone must choose the middle way. However, it's not the golden middle way...Maybe if you practice Buddhism and eat Lucky Charms while doing it, this can be achieved?
B, however, is not a numerical situation, you can't evalutate that mathematically, it all depends on personal priorities.
That is pretty much the problem - when you can't evaluate something mathematically, you have to start thinking (oh the irony).
If you don't go to the extremes, you have to find the middle between the middle and the extreme.
*hold for thinking*
Ouch.
I mean, how do you find the golden middle in the question "Should I eat this piece of rare meat or not?"
The answer is either yes or no. You can't eat half the meat and get a mixture of results. You get sick or you don't get sick. Simple as that.

I believe the movie was Pi. Never heard of the Golden middle, but I have heard of the Golden Rectangle which is found in are and buildings everywhere. From what I derive from the post, the Golden Middle is the perfect choice that meets both needs equally. There is no real equation for this, as it can very from person to person. It is something that you need to figure out yourself, as my goldem middle could be different than yours.
Yes it is, and the purpose of this thread was to find out yours.
