I promptly uninstalled it after it was over.
First thing I noticed about the game is that it sucks up cpu cycles like mad, so I had to go in and drop the resolution and remove all sorts of effects to make it run at without lagging (which is bad because I can run UT2003 just fine with only a few minor things turned off). I chose the mission where you control Legolas and a group of Elf archers, and you have to hunt down and capture Gollum. Along the way, you fight a bunch of giant spiders. And thats pretty much it. You wander around fighting off some spiders, then you find an Orc encampment, fight and kill 3 Orcs that are weaker than the spiders, and the mission is finished. Legolas gets maybe a quarter of the way to the next level.
The music is good, the sound effectst are okay, but the units you control are annoying as hell, spouting out the same three or four lines over and over again when you click on them. The cutscenes were unnecessarily slow, and the voice acting for them was bearable, but not something you would expect of a LoTR title.
But in the end, it just seems to be another company's attempt to cash in on 1) Big movie and book popularity, and 2) Warcraft 3 style RTS /RPG.
Hardcore Lord of the Ring fans may enjoy the game, but for any avid gamer, I don't recommend it. For me, I'll stick to Warcraft 3.
WarCraft3 with a new paintjob and a few unique aspects.
One thing that did pwn in the Gimli mission was using that massive catapult, that thing really destroyed. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
You may want to try it yourself before passing judgment. It's a demo, not entirely polished/optimized yet. But is cool nontheless
