    I might have a go at making a map if I get time. I really wanna try my ice map idea... But it all depends on if I have enough time between Uni and work.

    Actually there are engine restraints, and balance issues as well. The aliens are a primarily melee team, and they're likely to get shredded against projectiles in an open area. And, as all upgrades are class based, it would be particularly difficult to reach classes that have projectiles in their arsenal.

    Supernorn: For the playmode that is probably the <b>best</b> map idea I have heard for it so far. Considering the mapping guidlines says "CS Style" to the layout I feel the sewer can be open and closed, which is very good. Try and put pipelines with water/dirt and a few big open areas with consoles to balance it out for the marines. Big pipelines and small closed pipelines will help balance out, within the pipelines make it so there is areas where skulks can climb up, and parts where marines have to go a bit further to find a ladder to go up a level. Interesting if designed right.

    so in the future ns will become food for all the unique "egos" out there. good to see another mod freed of the senseless, complicated thing that all players talk about but noone wants: teamplay. *sarcasm off*
    I really hope this wont ruin ns. I REALLY HOPE THIS!!!

    to say something useful:
    creating a map for ns is much more complicated. creating a good looking map for any other mod is not this hard. you only need an eye for interesting locations... thats it. not even the layout has to be good.

    This may not actually be the case. There is no doubt that there are tons of n00bish CS players out there, however, this new gamemode may attract the n00bish frag hungry players from the ns_ maps, over to the co_ maps instead.

    You are being to pesimistic. This could be a blessing, and could cleanse the original gameplay mode of Natural Selection.

    Yeah, a nice change of pace from the zero-brained "ns is tha b3st mod ev0r!!!" types already here, except without anywhere as near as haughty an attitude.

    I just talked to a good friend of mine yesterday who found trying to learn the standard NS gameplay too frustrating... He loves this idea. He loves NS, the concept of it, and wants to play it, but just couldn't get the hang of it. He loves this idea as a way for him to start enjoying it the way he knows he should be. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> There's plenty of non-morons who want to play this game, and this is an opportunity for some of them to work their way into it.

    Besides, the people who are to the point of what you described don't play anything else anyway, and they'll actually see this as a lame CS rip-off and stay even further away.

    but I cant get why the ns team changed their minds in this point. does ns really need this mode? Im not too shure. and to say "someone wanted to play ns but he found it too hard to lern to play it right." we all started at point zero.
    some people should think about adding more custommaps to ns instead of something else first.
    there is not even one match on our server where none of the new maps is played. cant remember when we played hera the last time... is this a bad sign? XD

    NS has one of the biggest learning curves I've ever seen, I think this is a great idea to get people interested in the game. I just hope that we dont end up with more combat servers than regular ns servers, but we'll see. Either way I'm sure it'll be well done and lots of fun.

    Guys this playmode is original and is in no way like CS, if you have played 1.6 then you will see. I only just got the privelage of playing 1.6 via steam, so the game mode now gets my thumbs up. I've changed my mind, nice idea Flayra, good luck all co_ designers.

    Expect a co_caduceus shortly before the release of ns_caduceus in... 20 years...

    Actually, since ns_caduceus uses two ships, there could be two maps with two differenet styles easily created...

    NS is the mod with the best atmosphere and gameplay in my eyes, but DoD wins when it comes to team chat (including say macros like %l and %h) and the entity 'scripting' possibilities.
    And I agree that this new game mode is difficult. Let's have an eye on it. People like fun maps so they will like co maps. But I really fear server admins and players will meet in the middle and co maps will be the most wanted game mode. (Don't forget that this also takes a great lift of the servers when you don't need to turret farm any longer.) It is also quite easy to create this type of maps and from what I have seen a few clans like the different/fun maps.

    I still haven't figured out the exact way you would map for a co_ map. There are no objectives, and no purpose to hold the other teams spawn (which I'd imagine would be annoying to say the least). To me, there is no ultimate goal to the map besides to kill things; even then, if you kill everything, and are at the top of the scoreboard, then what? It seems like a waste of time to make a map that would be backseat to bordem.

    It seems just like plane deathmatch. Maybe someone should port over bootcamp and gasworks from HL.

    if you have ever played attack and defend maps in TFC think of it like that, minus the capture points. Marines are attaclking and aliens are defending. How both teams go about that tho is totally up to the players.

    I wont lie.
    I doubt this new gameplay will be good for NS. Off course, i am a skeptic by heart.
    My biggest concern is that this new gameplay "overpowers" the old one in favor of deathmatch.
    I may be wrong and this will actually SPLIT the DM players and the TeamPlay players to everyone's astonishment and pleasure.. but only time will tell.

    In the mean time, from a mappers pov, this is cool.
    <b>No more commander mode = Levels can overlap each other!</b>
    Lots more vertical action! Great for skulking.

    I asked some ppl. weird thing: all the players shouted "NO, no CS-mode for ns PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!"
    so it isnt just me...

    and this mode will be pretty senseless without some "capture area" or "capture items" entities at least but this would fit the "normal" ns even better!

    if I think about this mode.... I really dont see any useful aspect.
    besides to get some players from other mods to play ns, so ns will raise on the "most popular mods" list... tststs... I like ns how it is.

    I am gonna stick at ns_ maps and I hope to see lots of cool ns_maps released after 2.1
    Of course Co_(DM?) is fun gamemode for fast action and I will test it as soon as I get it in my hands.

    imho Combat is good idea and the speculations of old game mode withering away is pure nonsense.
    Actually i'd like to see King of the Hill game mode, where marines try to defend something as long as
    they can (without spawning again) from endless kharaa waves.

    There aren't MANY possible game modes, but out of the ~10 possibilities, what uffo said sounds thrilling to me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> It's not exactly a Starship Troopers rip off, it is one of those missions you find in every good singleplayer realtime strategy: Hold position till evacuation. Save as many people as possible.
