Steam Error

hey,
I dont know how many of you got steam 1.0 to acctually work, but I keep getting this error when ever I try to turn steam on. It only turned on 1 or 2 times without showing this error.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Steam - Error

Could not connect to Steam network.
Either the Steam network is currently not running, or your internet connection is down.
Please check your internet connection and try again.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Is this just because the servers are overloaded from 1000's of people trying to get the patch, or something else?

In case anyone's wondering about this deja vu post: Cobra initially made a thread asking for help in General Discussion, then made this one in Off-Topic. I just merged the two. By the sound of that error, i think it's 'Either the Steam network is currently not running, or your internet connection is down.'. I'd probably say the former.

I tried turning my firewall off, it still pops the error up.

Be patient, the thing is most people don't have the patience to wait for the update files.

I got it to work now, but what does it mean when it says your CD-Key will provide you with 1 month free of valve games? Does this mean you with have to pay every month?

It shouldn't, or there will be rioting. It's probably some weird bug or mishap

even though the error has past for the record if u want to know if steam is running and how much bandwidth is been used check http://www.steampowered.com/status.html i dont think it lists all servers as it kind of misses the numbers between 7 and 26. unless they couldnt count.
