<div class="IPBDescription">Another Steam Topic?</div> I tried Steam with CS 1.06 beta and I thought it was really good. I heard that at release downloads took forever. That's to be expected considering how popular CS is. They even had to get rid of the Steam link on the counter-strike.net page so that there would be less traffic.
Anyways I'm sure it'll cool down again and from what I've seen it has some huge advantages:
-If I remember correctly, minimizing the window won't turn your sound off. Big plus for me, since I sometimes like to have AIM running or a music CD (may want to skip a track).
-There's that option that lets you auto-join a server when there's a slot available. Just turn that on for your favorite server, then go play on some sh*tty place until it lets you in.
-Cleaner interface.
This may not be worth the problems Steam has right now, but I guarantee that in a week or so Steam will definately be worth the download. I hope that they make NS compatible with it soon.
Everyone is really over-dramatizing this anyways. It's ridiculuos to think that Steam could kill Half-Life. This is like saying at the Windows XP release that WXP is going to kill computers...

2. Server query has a JOIN WHEN FREE SPOT IS AVAILABLE feature to, as well as many other server programs, without the hastle of all this steam crap.
therefore, those 2 features dont make steam any better then it is, its still a crappy program, and always will be.
you said its hard to update because so many people are updating, well maybe if they used there big ugly geeky brains and just had the normal way of updating a game, we wouldent have that problem bceause more then 100 sites would be hosting the update, and right now there is only about 3 steam servers and it only downlaods from 1 of them.
so like ive said above steam is **** and will always be ****, its pointless and does nothing to help the online gaming community.
MonkeyMaster- As for you, I didn't know that you could just esc and resume to make the sound come back- are you SURE?
I like the Steam interface better. I don't know what server query is, so I believe Steam does a better job of making that feature obviously available to me. I like the interface more. Considering Steam is free and optional at the moment, why should I complain?
