How do you know he OC'd?
Interesting Fact: P4 2.66Ghz is nothing more than a certified OC'd 2.4Ghz. Interesting.

if u buy or make check the cpu max clock?
and motherboard clock.
see if the cpu is celerom.
if celerom this cpu only has clocked by 100.
if u put any thing not this u have troubles.
if the papers with the mb say the clock next the real clock is 399 for a celeron 400 dont do this,
check on internet for the full paper of the mb.
the box paper u have is a short teach, not he full list, on internet, on the web u can see all the list, with the jumps to put in 4x100 to work to 400.
if right lets try this check heating.
hot is the biggest trouble.
see on bios.
or get cpuiddle to check on the operational systen.
or use the software with the mb(motherboard).
if hoting try put fans on case.
or put a best cooler on computer,
this could happens in hot days of europe.
if not hoting, try check memory ram, could has low ram, or damaged ram cards.
any this are happing could be software or virus or bad dowloads or badblocks.

and get a scope and check the voltage on the power suply.

if AT is easy turne on, and put the black plug on the black wire inside of the case,
and the red plug start to check the anothers wires,
like red +5,
yellow +12,
blue -12,
white -5,
orange powergood +5.
ATX powersuplies only disconect from all case, and cards, and do this:
conect a litle piece of wire like a wire u use to close the bread,
because wire of the bread has a litle cover of rubble,
the piece need conect two things:
-the green cable at the black cable.
this is the power conection,
then plug the black plug at another black wire,
and a red plug start to check anothers wires,
like the AT,
but see the purple first,
must has +3v or +3.3v this is the best powersuplies to cpu,
if +5 is a cheap power suplies,
and cpu will overheating,
or in the future your motherboard will burn,
this +5v will down by mb to +3v,
and this work is by the security syten, against overheating ,
not is the good thing,
u are using evrey time the emergency syten.
dont forgot to has a nobreak,
or a filter to save your power suplie of the case from external damages.
how know my suplies is AT or ATX?

The question simply was why his compiler freezes while working.
Compiling can (and DOES) take a LOT of recourses and time.
Especially lighting (vis & rad) can easily take several hours!
(my map ns_falcon is only about 1/4 done and takes over an hour to compile).
During this time the compiler seems to freeze, but it's working.
Just have a look at your windows' resource meter (you will see a CPU usage of nearly 100%).
You can also use the parameter -estimate wich will show some information... it won't help you understanding anything, but at least it shows you the compiler is working.
