Also, I believe the 'phasein' sound (used to drop buildings and stuff) was from Descent: Freespace, I heard it there when exiting a menu. Of course, it may be part of a free sound menu or something.

There is currently a bug(I expect) with the musicplaying that makes it stop whenever you die(among other things, although I don't know which that would be), that's probably why you don't hear it much.
I alwalys turn the music off on the website, its weird and creepy, and I start getting paranoid after I hear it for too long <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Donated? Wow, that would have been nice of him, but I don't know too many pro composers who have time to just donate music...
I'd like to know an approximate on how much they paid him, out of curiosity (working on a project of my own that needs a theme). Jeremy Soule pwnz hard, so I'm guessing it was a good chunk of change.
Flayra, when he was still working at Stainless Steel Studios, contacted Jeremy Soule to see if he wanted to create some music for Empire Earth, and proposed the idea to our management. For a variety of reasons, it ended up not working out with Jeremy for that project, but Flayra kept in touch with him and kept him up to date on the development of NS.
At some point Flayra mentioned that he'd love to hire Jeremy for some music, but couldn't afford to pay him much. Jeremy was excited about NS and volunteered to throw together a few songs for us for free, which was pretty awesome of him.
For NS 2.0, I believe, a community member sent us some music of theirs to use, and as far as I know some of those songs made it into that release. I don't remember the guy's name off the top of my head, though.
NS 2.0's new ambience music was done by Hypergrip for ns_fenris squeal, unfortunately fenris didnt make it in due to the map's source getting lost, but hypergrip's music was used for the new ambience stuff in NS 2.0, also hypergrip was made a playtester for it.

you can still dload 2.0 compatible versions of NS Fenris, with overhead map and everything.
Overall it's nothing quite like bast, and I don't like it much, but the details in many parts are very nice, some areas have very cool architecture and feel - they should be transported to new maps
I love it and want to permently add eire music like it in my house <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

the new stuff for 2.0 isn't really music. it's just random creepy ambient sound effects. i could do that.
Then do it, and prove it, hey if they are as good as hypergrips maybe you could pt? <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->
