I realize c++ compiles into binary. It's just by the <i>beautifully crafted wording</i> of the original poster I got the image of Flayra meticulously going through ones and zeros <i>"just so"</i> to give us our <i>"beautiful scenes and interactions on our computer monitors,"</i> never have words been so eloquently sculpted. They rival even those beautiful scenes comprised of 1s and 0s on my INTERNET COMPUTER MONITOR in sheer beauty.

In other words I was mocking what is blatantly terrible writing.

Are you sure it's blantently terrible writing? I doubt he wrote it like that on purpose.

Anyhow, I reconize where the post is coming from, but for the sake of most of the half ill-literate people on these forums, you should have use more paragraphs.

When it's long winded, non-sensical, offers no new information or different takes on old information, all while being thickly layered in pretension without the intellect to back it up, yes, I can say it's both terrible writing and a terrible thread.

I know this is a little hypocritical to ask, but what was the point in posting this?

If that's so, then why do people still make threads about the issues mentioned? It might be obvious to you, but it clearly isn't obvious to the just-below-average forumite.

Assuming perfect developers with infallible memory and communication software would work perfectly except for hardware problems. Back out here in the real world: we're human, humans make mistakes. All it takes is a single error that manifests intermittently at runtime and you're off to the wonderful fun of debugging.

If anyone thinks they can do better, by all means feel free to do so. Until you've actually worked on a substantial project integrated with an API of questionable design while being dragged in six directions by an enthusiastic but clueless user community: please shaddup about software quality.

Me? I do industrial development, research programming languages, and write programming competitions for fun. Have done enough work with the Half-Life SDK to know that I'd really rather not. Would rather work on compiler tools to allow larger maps with more detail and better visuals.

    Cheers,
    Chris

If anyone is still reading... lol

The thing is that there is a BIG difference between a game balanced by playtesters/devs (perhaps not perfectly so, but reasonably close) and a game that has been playtested.

You have all said that Flayra threw alot of things in at the very end (for God KNOWS why). Maybe Flayra has some brilliant reasoning and I will one day say "OMG, YOU PWN ME" but, right now it seems to me he basically threw out a very long period of playtesting in order to restore "FUN" when he could have just held back the release a week, or even a few days to TEST those changes.

Blah blah blah, complex interconnected variables, blah blah blah. The game had been finetuned once before, and while not perfect was awfully close. Still don't see why we should expect a game to be MORE unbalanced than it was during beta testing. (Again, I know the REASON, but I don't believe its a valid excuse, insofar as wanting to make the game fun again is a worthwhile reason to basically trash all the playtesters work)

A nicely written post has been flamed and dragged off topic so much that it needs to be closed. Everyone who posted in this thread, look at what you wrote, and then think how it was constructive to the thread in general.
