Are you running Day of Defeat retail or something? If you are, make sure you installed NS correctly. If you're running half-life, I don't see how you could get this problem. Maybe you are using the filter wrong? Are you sure you are filtering only NS games? If you still can't get it to work, I suggest you download Gamespy Arcade and search for NS servers with that.

You should find games using GameSpy Arcade.

    "should" <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> lol...

My guess is you're filtering using the dod filter, so switch it from dod to NS

Next to that, you could use an external server browsing program, and you <b>could</b> use gamespy arcade, which would be fairly easy to use, but the advertising tends to get on one's nerves, and most people use programs as "All Seeing Eye" and ".hlla"

I suggest using the All Seeing Eye because gamespy arcade is full of ugly spyware......

.hlla is a bit better then ASE, IMO
Its a little more complex, and takes a bit of learning to use.. but it seems to work better then ASE.. and its freeware..

OK, I stuck a post a few weeks back listing all the various tools you can use and links to them lt me copy and paste...

    <a href='http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html' target='_blank'>All Seeing Eye</a> $10 shareware after free trial
    <a href='http://www.gamespyarcade.com' target='_blank'>Gamespy Arcade</a> $add supported
    <a href='http://www.hlsw.net' target='_blank'>HLSW</a> FREE
    <a href='http://www.hlla.net' target='_blank'>.hlla</a> FREE
    <a href='http://www.serverspy.net' target='_blank'>ServerSpy.net</a> Web based & FREE
    <a href='http://www.gametiger.net' target='_blank'>GameTiger</a> Web based & FREE

GameSpyArcade does NOT contain any spyware, it IS add supported so you get the program for free but every now and then the program (GSA) will show an advert for a few seconds. You can pay to avoid these adverts if you want but there is no obligation to do so.
All Seeing Eye's license agreement insists that you purchase the software if you want to continue using it after the free trial.

Use whatever you like, they're all ok and none of them are perfect.

actually, I don't know if he's referring to servers, but maybe he is.

I'm interpreting this as the old shortcut bug, only it's causing problems for every mod. how was that fixed?.. had to add a path to the shortcut... can't remember details.

if his problem IS server-browsing, then .. disable all filters (except "running game") and try to refresh the list. I'd do that before getting an outside server-browser, just to try to solve the actual issue rather than bypass it. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

The short answer is: use the filter. Simple. Then you'll only see NS servers. Filter for NS, then hit "update".

Just use the All-Seeing Eye. It works great for Half-Life. Also, if you're searching for servers using Half-Life, you have to make sure you have "ns" checked or clicked.

ServerQuery is a free, light-weight dedicated server browser; allowing you to browse and connect to most popular games that utilise a dedicated server model. Unlike its competitors, ServerQuery comes equipped with lists of servers targetted to the Australian/NZ gamer; many of these lists are officially supported by the ISP providing the servers.
ServerQuery is also a useful tool for use at LAN parties, able to quickly search for and display any servers running on the local network.

Programmers and other users who believe in the open-source philosophy will be pleased to know that ServerQuery is provided under the GPL licence.

    What, and the Eye isn't??
Any program that makes you connect to install is something to stay clear of IMHO.

Using the built in HL server browser works for me.
