Using Unused Computer Cycles For Good

grid.org and SETI@Home
Does anyone here use United Devices "Fight against Cancer" or SETI@HOME? These programs run in the background (never interfereing with programs) and utilizes unused computer cycles in computations that would otherwise be too unwieldley to even the fastest of supercomputers. Millions of users download 'work units' and send them back when finished, racking up points and rankings. So a kind of competition between members, teams, and countries spring up on who could do the most service. United Devices attempts to match molecules in search for cures of cancer, anthrax, smallpox, and a variety of deadly diseases. SETI@HOME, created by UC Berkeley, searches radio transmissions for possible signs of extra-terrestrial life. Both are good causes (though one be more 'unorthodox' than the other).
If there's enough interest, the NS community can create a team for United Devices in friendly competition for a good goal. This post was inspired by DOD forum's simlilar efforts, and they are very successful.
So check it out at www.grid.org.
And check out www.setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu to find those Kharra.
And here's the link to the DOD forum where it was suggested, also contains additional info.

And shame on you for triple posting, this problem has been here for a while, so you should know how to avoid it (don't hit 'back' to re-post it).
But...
but im doing it for me pop, so i wont join any NS team or so...
Forgive me.

anyone else interested?
I'm currently on the [H]ardFolding team, but would be more than willing to switch to an NS-related team if we set one up. Not like it makes much difference, the results still go to the same place...

I remember Folding@Home, which I believe also looked for cancer agents. I used it for a while before I switched to a permanent UD member.
[edit]Found that hl2central.net and halflife2.net forums have also mentioned seti@home. It seems that more now are realizing its potential[/edit]
2 is more important, so pay more attention to that haha
1) Does it run all the time? Constantly? Or does it have levels, etc, which decide how much CPU to use, or what times to run the program, or as soon as i run the program does it work fully? I ask because I can afford to have it running fully for a long time, except for when i play games [do i just alt + f4 it when i want to play, and start up program when im finished?].
2) This is important: Is it a bandwidth, internet thing?? I have a very very small cap which I CANNOT afford to go over, I want to know if there is a significant, or even insignificant, constant or even semi-constant connection or bandwidth usage. This is important...
Thanks.

SETI@Driver runs as a icon in the taskbar, you can choose priority levels with it, however i think its always hogs some CPU, so for CPU hogging progs (like new games, mebby vids and so on) i recommend you shut it down, but try to see the performance with it running first.
SETI@Home runs as your screensaver, so itll never disturb your Games or anything.
And about bandwidth, every sound file you analyze with SETI is below or about 1Meg for sure, can't remember the size actually. and it only requries you to be online when you Send the analysed files/recieve new ones.
How do i choose priority levels? Inside the program or using windows ctrl alt del processes window
I still need to know bandwidth for cancer, I chose cancer over looking for ETs because i thought 'hey, DNA sounds like less cap-usage than a nearly constant stream of Sound files"
=/
and those other non-SETI progs i know noffin 'bout.
