Marr's Ambience Pack
for Natural Selection
Ver 2.0 8/21/2003
**********************
Replaces default ambient sounds with new ones. It features sounds from Diablo, Final Fantasy XI, Warcraft III, Myth, and the movie ALIENS. I thoroughly edited the files using GoldWave, Audacity, and CoolEdit. Now, ambient sounds are more moody and creepy, but stay out of the way of the real action.
All mp3 files standardized to 22khz, 56 bit, and all wav files standardized to 11khz, 16 bit for good quality and a smaller footprint than the original NS ambient sounds. Wav files now have repeat flags so that they loop properly.
Unzip into your half-life\ns directory.
Listen to a <a href='http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/daoctotalsound/atmospheric.mp3?download' target='_blank'>PREVIEW</a> sound. (338 KB mp3 file)
Download the pack <a href='http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/daoctotalsound/ambience2.0.zip?download' target='_blank'>HERE</a> (9.1 MB zip file)

<b>howl2.mp3</b> surely gives me the creeps every time I hear it. The only think I could think about that could possibly be better is that I want more ambience just like howl2.mp3, hearing distant marine screams (there's only howl2 now <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->) AND also I find that a few sounds (very few actually) are a little low volume but I don't think that's a major problem.
Thank you thank you thank you Marr!
This stuff is definately going to be in NS eXperience v2.
I'll download the pack, hopefully it's just that file.
EDIT: Strange, almost all of the files are the same way as the preview one... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Dude, something must be wrong with your soundcard or your sound player.
Try copying them to your ns directory and try them in-game?
I guess my system just doesn't like those MP3 files. Oh well.
Just so you know, the following are the files that don't play properly for me.

I have no idea what it could be. What's your sound card? What mp3 player are you using? Also, do you have problems playing them in NS or only in Windows? Do they just not play or do they crash your system?
I've tested the pack on Win2000 and Win98 in two different machines and haven't had any problems. Sorry for the inconvenience. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm happy I got it sorted out, because everything I've listened to sounds great. I can't wait to hear it while playing. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Since you got them from Aliens, there isn't any chance you could happen to get some of the alien hissing sounds, would you? I'd like some to go along with my Aliens aliens models.

There is already a soundpack for Aliens models based on AVP2. It's pretty hard to find nowadays but I got a link here for ya:
<a href='http://www.ns-fr.com/customisation.php' target='_blank'>http://www.ns-fr.com/customisation.php</a>
Just scroll to the bottom of the page where you find a table with the topic "Sons" and there you'll see the AVP2 soundpack. About 12MB I think.
(or just use CTRL+F and write AVP2 and search for it on the page)
*clicks*
Once I get my computer and Half-Life to work, I'm going to enjoy this...
Like if you have this sound pack then you wont be able to play on the server? (like how some servers have a setting that you cant use custom models on the server) =/
