New Map Installation Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">error message: mod_NumForName:models/ns_</div> Out of curiosity does anyone actually read the tech support part of this forum, personally I'm more of an off-topic/ general girl myself. The problem though is, it seems whenever I post stuff in tech support I get no replies, and that's normally where I post important issues I have troubles with. So I'm going to ask my question here. Sorry to cause more work for who ever is going to move it (love you guys <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> , please let it be here for a little while <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->). But this way I might get a suggestion or two before it falls off the page into nothingness.

Ok, I am trying to install a map for play testing and I copied all of the folders into my ns folder accordingly. But I keep on getting an error message about one of the "models" files, it says it's not there, even though it is in the models folder. I tried re-installing that file, and replaced it, but it said it was still not there. The message was "mod_NumForName:models/ns_delta/ssite.mdl not found," what did I do wrong? Can anyone help me, thank you.

    Yes, we actualy do check tech help <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    there are a few of us who hang out here alot, however we will sometimes take a chunk of time to get to your post, just hang in <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (oh and if no one responds i t generaly meens we have no idea)

    so, lets see <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    ok, you have browsed over to ns/models/ns_delta/ssite.mdl, yes?
    and the model is there?

    ok, this is sorta hard to do with out actualy having access to the map you are trying to work with.
    MY suggestions would be:
    1) Check with the mapper and see if any one else has reported this.
    2) if no one has redownload the map and reinstall
    3) if none of this works convince the mapper to lets some of us have a look at the file to see if we can work it out <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    ok so I re-downloaded/ installed/ unzipped/ and coppied all the files into the according ns folders (3rd time no), and it's still not working, I think my computer is just angry with me. It was made by a person who knows what they're doing, and I don't really want to bother him, so I seriously doubt it's got anything to do with his side, especially because it worked just fine for my friend. (he's already walked around it and checked it out so it is my problem and not the mapmakers) Thank you for the help, anymore suggestions?

    WHAT!?!?!

    It's a ns map, not dod or cs, but it's retail I guess, aren't they all?

    CS retail and DOD retail work of slightly altered versions of the HL engine compared to normal HL.
    NS isn't fully compatible with DOD retail right now...
    So it is important to state what version of the HL engine you are running NS on.

    What I would like you to do is open up windows explorer (default of windowskey+e) then browse through to your NS directory (probably something like c:/sierra/Half-life/ns)

    then in the models dir make sure you have a folder called ns_delta

    try that out and tell us (this is after you have 'installed' the map)

    what I am expecting is that it is not unziping everything to the proper dirs

    Ok this is what I mean by put everything into it's appropriate folder. I put all of the "models" files into the models folder, I put all of the "sprites/ minimaps" into the minimaps folder under sprites, etc etc. I copied everything to where it was supposed to be. (I may or may not have gotten help from someone who knew what they were doing, p.s. that is why I knew it was done correctly, I think). The thing is the file that the error message said was not there, IS there, but my computer is angry and is overlooking it I guess? Hmm, I am sorry I am not being very helpful but gees I have no clue what I'm doing. I am back at school now though, with plenty of people that know about computers so if you have advice for them feel free to keep it coming. Until then thank you, and I'll keep on trying to get it to work.

    --Jane

    (so yes I did that above already, and my computer is still angry)

    ok, cool, just trying to set up some ground work <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    but that still leaves us with the problem that we don't know anytihng about said map.

    Would it be possible to provide a link to the DL? if the mapper wants this to be a closed beta then I sugest comparing the vital stats of that file to other peoples versions (rclick --> properties)

    also try ReDling it (sry if you said you did, I don't member right now) and then a fresh install. If you can nab it from a diff source (some one else mirroring it or if some one can host a copy of it for you)try that <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
