I would use headphones, but my ####### headset w/ a mic doesn't work with it. Its HL's fault, too! Well, then again, I haven't tried it since I got a new Soundcard (instead of using the one on my motherboard), but I still think it's not gonna work.
I haven't gotten anything to work quite right yet (that I was absolutely sure of) I haven't tried my most recent setup yet. Anyone know if having a really deep voice adversely affects voice chat?
Yuh. I'm hoping my mic on my headphones will work... if not, I'll have to attach that mic that sits on the side of the monitor.... If I can find the base to it...
No, a deep voice will not adversely affect your mic quality, unless it's so deep it's outside the audible range of humans. Or, if it's ouside the pickup frequencies of the mic.
my microphone is fine and it came with my sound card, its not attatched to my headphones but that doesnt really matter because it has its own stand, i can even play music over it and it sounds good!!! i have a program for the voice thing that plays wavs over the mic....fun stuff....
although now that i have the headset i feel like im working the drive through at mc donnalds....every time somebody calls for help i have a strange urge to say "please pull up to the window"
you need to go into audio properties, and mess with the recording settings of your sound card. Put the quality on a higher setting, windows puts it by defualt at a nasty low setting, good luck
Personally I use a nice set of headphones (MDR-CD280's, by Sony - Link) and a stand alone microphone. This works perfectly for me, the microphone is set so that it is in front of where my head would normally be while gaming. The headphones are great, because they offer much better sound quality than my speakers without me having to shell out money for a new surroud sound system.

Anyway, I don't really use the VoiceComm much, but I can see myself using it a lot in NS. All I've been playing recently is TFC in public servers where people tend to just do their own thing.
All of us must get Voice Com working, I have a perfect example why. Was playing on NFO:GZ and it was dust and I was playing as a Terror. We were getting owned badly several rounds in a row and around the third one I checked my radar as I was moving out, no wonder, we were all going in completly different directions. So next round I said, "Everyone rush the underpass!" They did and we wiped the CTs out. With me and two other guys with Voice dictating where to go we about evened the score, bout 10 CT wins to 8 T wins by the end of the map. Basicly as soon as some one told them where to go they started sticking together.

Scythe: As long as you have it set so that you cannot hear your own transmissions, you should be good to go.
GobyWan: I think that's what I'm gonna try. My roommate had a setup like that and he liked it.

I also hang my mic around my neck, that's what I was trying to say.

What are some good ones? Where can I get them?
...
No, you did not read the above statment.
There isn't much you can do to configure the pitch and tone of the HL VoIP. You can only make sure that it's loud and clear.
