I'm not sure which are good
OK, firstly I only own Ghost in the Shell... I have seen quite a few Anime films but when it comes to going out and buying them I don't have a clue what to look for. I noticed http://www.hmv.co.uk had a "Buy 1 get 1 Free" offer on, it includes some Anime films but I don't know what to go for.

I was thinking of buying X, because that is in there and I've been told it's good.

Any film suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also what are these like? I've always wondered if they will be good?
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Volume 1
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Volume 2

I posted a thread like this a while back, got some good info.

    http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...=10&t=26883&hl=

A bit long, but you could probably skim through and find something.

    Cheers...

Shame hardly anything suggested was in the sale... At least I have an idea of what to look out for in the future. Most people said Princess Monoke? (sorry, forgot the spelling.)

I'm having trouble finding stores in the UK which supply Anime... Anybody know any cheap British Anime sites?

I'm steering away from X: The Movie, because the new TV Series tells the story much better.

But whatever floats your boat ^_^

I've seen Street Fighter II twice before, it's very good and I enjoyed it... I've been tempted to buy it in other sales but I decided not to.

I suppose if I go into the store they will have more Anime DVDs, I've always pondered buying Perfect Blue but never knew anything about it.

Thanks a lot Infinitum, that's a lot of help and I'm thankful for your searching

Perfect Blue is ultimately flawed. It's a psycho-thriller with a huge build up and crappy ending. Don't believe the hype ;/

Rent it at best. Save your money

    I think I might purchase:

    Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 1
    Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 2

    - I've always wanted to see these but never wanted to pay £15 ($24) for 4 episodes... This way I can get 8 episodes for the same price... Seems like a bargain to me and might be the start of a collection.

    Castle of Cagliostrio
    X: The Movie

I might purchase these... But I am not sure... Castle of Cagliostrio looks a bit childish but it's got good reviews and from the director of Princess Monokone (different spelling )? I'm just randomly going with X because it sounds good and I've heard it's good.

I liked Perfect Blue, how is the ending crappy? the killer gets caught, the actress gets rewarded for all her work. Ta-da. It's a happy ending, but not the kind of happy where everyone just kinda goes "yay" and all the problems are solved with magic or something. And it also presents some very unique commentators (many stories have characters that serve as reflections of and commentors of the main characters. FLCL has the two kids whose names I forget; NGE had, to a certain extent, Shinji's school freinds and the controllers; etc) in the form of the Cham fans, which I found to be a very clever device.

AllUrHive, Shinji's friends weren't there to serve as reflections. Niether are like him. At all. They were true, characters. Maybe not main characters, but they aided the realism of the story, and they helped you forget that none of it was real, or happening, despite the fact that any of it *COULD* ultimately happen(giant robots may not, but I'm sure the rest will...).

But yes CaL, ALL OF Evangelion is worth getting. Its my personal favorite when it comes to anime, so...well, get it. You can't lose with Gainax. They even made a damn good parenting game a while back, and its in english...I liked it...in DOS, but it was fun...

Miyazaki anime films are the greatest. "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke" are really good, definitely check those out if you call yourself an anime fan.

    One word: Berserk.

I just finished watching the entire first season on DVD. Yes, all 700 minutes worth of it.if you havn't ever heard or Berserk before, just think 'crazy guy with a big sword', and you'll get the picture.

Berserk has got to be one of the most compelling, amazing stories I've ever heard. I was completely riveted throughout the entire time I watched it. Of course, the anime ends rather abruptly (the story continues in manga-form), but even alone the first season is excellent enough to stand alone. Buy it. now.

Hmmm...any other Berserk fans out there?

*edit* Vampire Hunter D is excellent as well. */edit*

Well maybe refection wasn't the right waord, I meant that the actions and thoughts of those characters provide a compliment that is similar but scewed to show contrast to that of Shinji's and make his motives more apparent. For example, whereas Shinji pilots the EVA to be accepted by his peers, Kensuke would willingly pilot the EVA because that would make him happy. Also, when Shinji is unwilling to fight the first angel, which was a threat to the world and was obviously an evil force, Touji makes it his mission to fight Shinji for reasons that are directly related to Shinji's choice, thus forcing the viewer to draw comparisons between Shinji and the Angel, and to question which's motives are morally right. There's also a few issues I could probably go into with Class Rep and Rei, but I havn't watched the series in a while so I can't.

Wow I have too much time on my hands.

Berserk the anime is a mockery of the Berserk manga.

They removed primary characters, key scenes (THEY REMOVED LIKE 50 OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SCENES >_<) , entire chapters of the story, 90% of the gore, nearly all the destroy scenes everything that made Berserk the work it deserved to be. You may say that it's a bit much having all of that stuff in, but that's the universe the manga-ka created and by god it works well. Not many would truly enjoy the Berserk manga.

Apparently the new season in production isn't allowed to be as violent as the 1st... Which basically translates too, lose the lolita moth of death, lose the tower of god fight, probably Caska's 'child', somehow add in Pak and the Death Knight somehow (And explain why they didn't appear in the 1st series and add in the fight with him versus Zod The Immortal... yeah gg nublets)

I am so not looking forward to it. DEATH TO THE BERSERK ANIME

Trust me, I used to think Berserk the anime was cool before I read the manga. Now I stand corrected.

Oh? I was under the impression they also did a Japanese version. But then again, that'd kinda make sense (one would assume that the Japanese like to watch cartoons in their native language as much as we'd like to watch cartoons in ours).

I won't go into depth on this, but i could use several words to describe Metropolis, none of which are allowed on this forum.

If you're getting DVDs from HMV, i recommend you go into the actual store, i managed to pick up (this month) the Macross Plus box (4 part OVA and "movie") for £10, which is not bad for a 3 DVD set, and it is rather good too.

Laupta : Castle in the Sky rocks both the house and the hizzy so try and pick that up. Also Ghost in the Shell is prolly the greatest anime I own, the series is good too and you can pick up fansubs P2P since its not out in the states yet.
