Bad Fps

Good graphics Card...
Ok.. I dont know too much about tweaking ect, so you may want to know my PC stats:

(CPU) 1-AMD Athlon™ XP 2600+, 2083MHz, 256KB (27% Load) .:. (RAM) usage: 264/768MB (34.38%) .:. (GFX) RADEON 9700 PRO - Secondary (Omega 2.4.74a), (Display) 1024x768/32bit/85Hz
-00:46:37- [@Smithy^Away]: (OS) Windows XP Professional (5.1 - 2600), (uptime) 5h 18m 13s .:. (HDDs) 17.0G/37.2G(45.8%) free

My FPS can go as low as 30 with my gfx card, I have used the ATI drivers, Omega drivers, changed every single setting possible, AA, AF, texture quality, bitmap quality, v-sync off.

I cannot get a constant FPS, and yet people with cheap graphics cards, Geforce4 mx440 (Sorry if ive offended you but I paid £240 for mine) say they can get 100fps constant.

I really do not know what is wrong, is there some kind of incompatibility problem? Even the lower series radeons say they get better FPS than me, and yet people with this card have told me they get about the same FPS.

I even tried roob's advice with the 100Hz and v-sync on, even off, and still no luck.

The strange thing is, I can play in 6xAA and 16xAF and have exactly the same FPS, no change what so ever.

I had a GeForce4 Ti4200 before this and Im pretty sure I had a btter FPS, so I doubt its my hardwares fault, like RAM, mobo, ect.

The card is awsome for other games that the geforce lagged in, like BF192 and Planetside, and I get 100fps in CS and TS all the time.

Could someone please tell me how to fix this problem as I havent the slightest clue... If you have to suggest a new motherboard or whatever then go ahead and do so as Im really annoyed.

Thanks alot. Smithy.

I'm pretty much having exactly the same problem, although with a poorer system. My FPS should be through the roof (ok, not that good, perhaps), when you consider my specs.

    Topic here:

I do, however, think it that it might have something to do with my GFX-card sharing an IRQ with several other components (network cards, sound card). It shouldn't theoretically be a problem, because of windows IRQ allocation (don't remember the exact name of the technology used so several components can share an IRQ), but several people on Tech support forums have suggested this as the source of the problem. Unfortunately, one can't change IRQ allocation in the newer wins (Win2k, WinXP), so I have no idea how to fix this.
