I agree with surge, however some things are advisable to be changed.
It's not even that good of an idea in theory. Ollj is just being a jackass.
Hey, here's an idea: How about having the playtesters drop the obnoxious attitude of "Blah blah blah, i've played it more than you" and "wah wah, it's too early for anyone to say anything", with the latter leading full circle back to the former, only to repeat ad infinitum? Let things take their natural course and help out, or shut your goddamned piehole. If you're so keen on thinking that you've already seen every strategy that will EVER exist despite the fact that you've all constantly missed things with previous releases, then you need to get busy and start writing extensive guides. Not willing to do that? Then shut up.
You want to set us out on our own to figure stuff out? Great. Fine. Then don't alienate us with topics like this.

yes, much better to just, say .. create a patch every 30 minutes encorperating all the 'suggestions' and 'balance ideas' from people who have played the game for a week ...
That's sure to make a much more balanced game.
the coding into that was just pointless, noobs just jump in and u get jack done about killing aliens buildings.
it did, as they said, resolve itself when marines learned to turret up RT's, and now marines are winning nearly half of the games. but the games that they arent winning end with them relocated to an open area with lots of level 3 turrets, and ha+hmg level3 guys defending or pushing out. for an hour this continues as onos after onos with unlimited res pushes into their base and dies. i think these are called stalemates.
waht really annoys me is that when the marines control no territory and the aliens have unlimited res, the aliens still cant break them. yet if the tables were turned the aliens would be slaughtered in an instant. so, after an hour an alien or two f4's and the marines push into a hive, and go for the win.
let me reiterate, we are having stalemates that last until one side is too bored to play nearly every game.
i dont know what magical tactics the PT's had, or if they even are palying the same game we are, but if in three months of betaing they didnt notice the multiple hour long stalemates, then something is wrong. Yes, 2.0 is a LOT faster.
remember, this is a pub, we dont have the luxury of teamwork. marines are forced into teamwork by respawning in the same place to fight the same battles together, while the aliens spawn all over the map and do as they please to get to the marines.
maybe, PT's played with mp_tourneymode 1, where the round ends at 30 minutes giving the win to who has more res accumulated. this makes sense, but no pubs use that. should they be? since clearly the PT's version of "balance" is from scrimmage style play.

That IS the problem when you are on a pub. Most single restower marine bases can be broken fairly quickly. Get some Onos, a few gorges, and lerks. You need 2 hives too, at least.

The last thing seems to be the biggest problem, many players don't seem to like doing something where they help the team without destroying things themselves. In anti-teamplay servers (there seem to be a lot these days) even just getting aliens to attack in a group instead of going in alone can be hard. I've seen long stalemates being mostly broken in a few minutes with this method once the aliens decided to go in together (the lerk probably shouldn't go in but umbra from a distance). You may not take everything with you in the first attack, but focus on important structures. Observatory, prototype lab (no more HA!), turret factory,... <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->
