Active Defence?

Well, before you say "defence? no use, you have to expand!"
listen....

When ever I comm (although I would much rather be squad leader/Pointman) I always think. What hive do they have? what will be the most likely thing the aliens will do? Where are the key choak points/Res nodes?

after you have these basic idea's you already have the plan really,

You have to expand to your nearest RTs, and rotate your defence to face the aliens prime hive, a good visual idea (just a idea) is to place your hand on the screen and cup it, so that on the screen you can see what territory you should control/deny.

once you have your 1st few RTs up, back them up but turning them to small fire bases, each with a Turret Factory (TF) and a few turrets. You might even want to link the one closest to the hive with a Phasegate (PG) so your troops can get to the fight quicker.

Sometimes its good to set up firebases on area's which have no resource value but huge tactical value, Such as choak points to your base. (this would give you a good staging area for counter attacks and also a "buffer zone" around your own primary base)

not to forget upgrades, while this is going on (assuming your still in control of the game) you should also be saving some resources for the weapon upgrades as you will need these later.

Tips -
Having you Obs as a group to be selected is always good since you never know when you need a quick scan (more often the not)

have to squads, squad 1 to draw alien atention, and squad 2 to build/expand to "safe" nodes
(a safe node being one most likely not to be scouted by aleins)

Have squads with mixed weapons, since each weapon is suited for diffrent roles having diffrent one's in the squad prepares you for anything you may encounter

Marine Tips-
When moving, always travel along the sides of rooms etc (since less area to scan for aliens)

Sound sound sound, You can tell alot about your enemy from sound...listen and likewise, be aware that aleins can hear you too!

I know this is basic, but Stay in groups..... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
