I dont know, but usually that requires alot of code, so i doubt it.

Dynamic music would require a recoding of the whole music engine, which is a tad bit of work - I wouldn't bet on it in v 1.0 <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

The in-game .mp3 player is documented by an example map in the NSTR2, BTW.

I think Moleculor is taking about ns_nancy having his favorite readyroom.

The guys name who is doing the NS soundtrack is Jeremy Soule and has done various soundtracks for the following games:

    Morrowind
    NwN
    Socom
    Dungeon Seige
    Unreal II
    Baulders gate
    Final Four
    Giants
Total Annihilation (which won one award for best music.)
    Azurik
Icewind Dale (which won two award for best music.)
    Unreal warfare
And believe it or not: Secret of Evermore for SNES

Oooh... big name for the music. Don't tell him that I plan on turning it off. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Actually, my favorite RR would have to be Tanith's. They're all really nice, of course. With the exception of one map's, but that one is just a really dark black room as a placeholder.

i would immagine that you could use your own mp3's also, so if you think you need something different while playing as an alien if its not included, im sure you could make it work. just an assumption based on the way hl generally handles sound, feel free to correct me if i am wrong. but i love the classical/orchestral idea for the marines for sure.

Well do you think NS will have a sound track? cause i know hl nor any mods do there intro screen is just silence(you know the screen when you first load up hl with all the options exp "multiplayer"). The hl for ps2 had a soundtrack but that's besides the point  <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

omg, you have the Total Annihilation composer? That game deserved every award it got. I can still hum those epic battle tunes.

Personally, I wouldn't take Right_Behind_You as a credible source.  Something about him not being on the team, and such.

if i recall RBY's post was blocked out while the team decided whether or not to release the info and it has since been replaced, notice it is edited by molec... prob semi-credible.

Or it could have been me trying to prevent rumors. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Anywho, the -possibility- of Jeremy Soule doing music for NS was bandied about even back on the old forums. No one has said that that is -definitely- happening though.

realtime ingame music will prolly not be in for v1 or even v2. it's lot's of work.
Audio == most difficult thing to get in a mod/game
  • horror_kidhorror_kid Join Date: 2002-06-14 Member: 765Members
i said semi-credible because you chose to leave it inspite of the fact that it may start rumors molec, the "semi" is the key part there, for anyone who didnt notice it...

standard disclaimer: i am NOT a playtester, and chances are i do NOT know what i am talking about.

We'll be announcing the musician for NS soon now, but I wouldn't listen too closely to those not on the dev team... :)
