With all its major competitors delayed until next year, they probably figured that it wouldn't hurt to give it that extra polish, see the new vid cards come out, and try to quash driver issues (apparently, the vid card companies and Microsoft's DX are dragging their feet in getting stuff done that's important).

This is actually not so bad for me really, even though it sucks. More time to save for a new rig, and more time for the N360 to come out and go down a bit in price.

I have to say, however, that these sites are truly irresponsible. The only people who really know is Valve, and the Valve guys are always pretty happy to answer any and all questions. So the fact that they didn't at least try to contact Valve to get comment on the news before going live with the story is pretty crummy journalism.

Seems that some random fan was more enterprising than these gaming sites, and actually mailed Valve. Or so he claims. His email and response:
