Ns 2.0 (or 1.04) Sever Specs?

What are the minimum system requirements for running a server in NS 2.0 or 1.04? I have an old P3 800 with 256 meg of ram that I could easily turn into a server when I move back on campus in a week. How many players could I get from that or would it not even be worth my time?

On 1.04 you could get a laggy 10 player server. Maybe with 2.0 you can do a 10+ that isn't laggy.

From what ive gathered abotu cpu usage.

I would say for ns 2.0 your cpu shoudl be fine for a small-mediums erver. but, your ram would limit you.

Close, but not really, my 14 player NS server won't even take 100MB...256 should be fine if your running a single server with nothing else on it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

that has to do with the build, not the OS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Yes 1.04 linux was a BAD build. But i've never seen it use more than 100MB of RAM

Why do you say 1.04 was a BAD build ? Considering they fixed the CPU load issue and that MT actually worked =)

No, they didn't fix any CPU issues in 1.04 for linux, though they did fix MT. Oh and they broke AM. Not to worry though, should work just fine this build.

PIII 600E 256mb RAM 6 player NS on a cable connetion with Stripped down RedHat 9.0 running nothing but the kernel, HLDS, iptables (yes I prefer to ban idiots by ip and iptables makes it real easy to make sure they don't try and pull any crap), and MySQL.

Runs like a champ.. I will probably up it to 8 man with NS 2.0 but I dont want to milk my connection to badly.
