Should I Upgrade The Day It Comes Out?

<div class="IPBDescription">What if none of the servers upgrade?</div> I have slight prob, Should i uprgade to 2.0 the DAY it comes out? Or should i wate a week untill more servers upgrade?

EXAMPLE:

I upgrade the day it comes out, too find that there are only 3 servers running 2.0, and there full/reserved slots/(insert prob here)

Most respectable servers will update.

Trust me.

Not only that, but the server files will be released the day before (July 30th).

Yeah im sure the good servers like voogru and cofr will update, but as it stands, when i search for servers i only get about 100, which isnt really alot, im afraid that when 2.0 comes out the numbers will drop so low that i cant possibly play the game.

If your paranoid about ther enot being servers, make a backup of yout 1.04 directory before you update.

Just rename v1 to ns1 then install
then rename v2 to ns2..
rename whichever you want to play before ns
You might not even have to do this.. just leave it at ns1 and ns2 .. It may show up as 2 seperate games

This makes it easier to tell them apart:
Open Half life\ns1\liblist.gam in notepad
where it says game "Natural Selection"
change it to
game "Natural Selection v1.04"
Then it will show up in Half-Life Custom Games as Ns v1.04, and the other will show up as NS
Or just make 2 seperate shortcuts

there will always be the vet / pt servers that are up for pt (ReD , FoR , STD, and others) and many of the clans that did PT that didnt have servers up because flayra said no will be up ...

ok, obviously this is a foreseeable problem. Hence, the server upgrade is released on Wednesday, and announced and publicized everywhere. that way, come NS2.0 release, any serious server/server admin has all ready upgraded, so that happy fan-boys (or girls) can play immediately.

And the incentive to do so? if they don't upgrade, players will go to servers that have. and everyone wants players. so ... duh.

The problem for some of us is that the people running the servers we frequent may be not exactly up to speed with current events. Myself and a good number of Australian players play on the Gamearena servers which are run by Telstra, a rather large telecommunications operator here. I don't even know if they've even heard of NS 2.0, so they could lag a bit behind. I'll download 2.0 the day it comes out, but I'll hold off installing it until I'm certain the servers have updated.

Why not just check on ASE etc. before you run the installer and see how many servers there are for you to play on then install if they're up. TBH though the server patch will be released the day before so most of the popular servers will have already updated.

I plan on upgrading immediately, and I suggest you do too. The majority of servers will probably be upgraded before the 2.0 client is released. The worst that can happen is you have to wait for a few minutes to try and log onto a compatible server.

Things don't get "put on" gamespy or any other server search. The server searches put that type of game in their services :O

I know from experience that a lot of servers can take a while to update, when dod 1.0 was released, even three days later I still only got 100-150 servers per search.

Though i suspect ns with a much smaller community will have atleast 50 up, and some new ones aswell.

I remeber a time when I was playing at a cyber cafe the day of a CS update, the cafe's systems where not updated and the servers we could play on where of a quickly shrinking minority. And on the servers that we could get on when ever we talked about the new version the other players would be like "<i> Oh ya, I think I heard there was an update sometime recently, that must be why I can't conect to any servers!</i>"

Trust me, with a community as small as NS's, you must update on the day of release.

NS community isn't small by anything but CS standards.

Just download it, unless you're really itching to play 1.04 for another few days. Chances are the 1.04 servers will be the empty ones.

I'm really worried that if the person whom I rent the server from has not gotten any of my messages, he may not remember to upgrade the server and it may be a while before I can get a hold of him, and I can't acess email from here so I have no idea how to get a hold of him and GRRRRRRRR
