its a pity that the editor has no coordinate tracker. this error can be the result of invalid brushes or faces. the x,y,z coordinates may help to find the area where the error is located. problem: one has to create a giant block with EXACT this dimensions to find it. I like the brush errors that tell you the number of the invalid brush. "search and destroy"-mission eith the build in brushfinder <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

If your using hammer you can use the lower right handed coordinates to track the position very quickly, the portal is using caused by in my experience rocking in walls, just go to the coordinate and slightly adjust the pieces

I've had this problem before - it just caused choppy running. I compiled after a couple seemingly unrelated changes and it went.

In BSP the (visible) volume of your map (hull 0) gets divided into "leafes".
Each leaf is shaped like an invisible brush filling some map volume.
Leaf portals are just the "faces" between 2 leafes.
With gl_wireframe 2 you can see the borders/faces of leafes touching the walls.
BSP creates an binary aray-tree of all leafes of your map.
VIS then creates a matrix that stores wich leaf is visible from wich other leaf.
Sometimes this fails because of too complex level/leaf geometry.
This leads to an invisible wall (like a hall of mirror) somewere between 2 leafes when you are standing on one special leaf looking to another special leaf.

Its just a minor error, that makes VIS and RAD take a little longer, causes minor rad errors when theres a light spot from one leaf to the other and a hall of mrror as mentioned above.

Big leaf is in ns_conquer2 (+3) in the southwest high doubleres room when you look north (to the door) while standing on the ledge.

ZHLT came with a handy reference guide in HTML form that discussed all the major compile errors, like this one. It should still be included with the Merl and Cagey versions of those tools (And if not, then shame on Merl and Cagey for leaving it out!).
