I'm obviously having troubles with my gamma.

So here's the story: I just got my new computer and I'm like "whee" for the first two days, but then I start to notice something annoying. Whenever I go into any game my desktop gamma resets, and so does the gamma in-game. Most games you can change it while you're still in the game, but of course, Half-Life is a bit different. I hadn't played NS for a few days because I was occupied with PlanetSide and the WarCraft3 Expansion, so I've just started to notice the problem here.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I've already sort of solved the problem with PowerStrip, but I'd rather just fix it by making my gamma stick in one position instead of having to Ctrl+Alt it up and down whenever I play a Half-Life mod. I have WinXP Home and my vidcard is a 9800 Pro.

First of all, stab yourself in the eye repeatedly with a fork.

This will alleviate my jealousy towards you for having a radeon 9800 pro.

Then have a looksie in your detonator driver config panel under "Color". Here you might be able to fiddle with the gamma for both full screen 3D games and desktop. This might solve your problem.
