An awesome, under-rated server
Being an irregular at [ARS] Clan's server, I had very little realization as to how well that server was run. A friend and I laned a night playing ARS for 6 hours straight, producing some stunning games with challenging people. I think that some servers get buried in the publicity of powerhouse servers like [CoFR] Aliens Infest and Nano-Gridlock.

All in all, the server is well moderated by mature Admins, and deserves a look. Just sharing my warm fuzzy feeling after an awesome night of 1.04.

Nano-gridlock is fun, and is my current home ^-^ there should be more servers like it IMO.

Nice server, but the amazing HLBOOSTER plugin, which amazingly increases the servar's FPS also seems to cause a lot of secondary lag when the server is full. This may also due to the fact that they are trying to run a 20 person server with rescources for 16.

ArsClan NS v1.04 Server 1

(12.147.59.99:27015)

It is an 18 player server, and I've never really seen a problem with lag myself (but then again, I'm on a business cable line with 1.5 both ways).

At any given time, 75% of the server is usually regulars anyway.

I love this server too, made me a lot better than before since some pretty good players play there. Also, they have a reg-only night every week and just mess around. Like last week they dropped 20 phase gates in hera reception for fun. Good stuff.

TheGivingTree: No bans are handed out without a demo. If you want to get unbanned you have to post in the Public Admin forum @ arsclan.net where your demo will be reviewed by the NS admins. Now if you don't hack, you should probably post there. It is VERY hard to catch aimbotting since 1.04 has no first person spec.

Actually, I'm a member of GivingTree's clan and I must say ... he gets banned an awful lot(he's a marine **** and he's good). When I was an admin on sleepless we tried going through the whole process with banning him too ... but the problem was that NO ONE was absolutely sure because of the lack of a first person spectator view. Thank god this is being fixed in 2.0 ... plus all those people with no muzzle flash won't have such a big advantage, which I feel is probably the most used 'cheat' in the game ...

I would tend to agree with you... but the ars clan server banned me for *cheating* wouldnt even let me send them a demo. So i'm still going to have to side with cofr/nano-gridlock. I cant wait for servers to show CD running by your name.

Tree - we do indeed still have your demo. If you'd like it overturned, post here and contest it. So far, two bans for "aimbot" have been overturned. We don't get our egos bound up in our bans and taking the time to contest counts for a lot (especially with v2 and lovely first-person spectating coming so soon). Besides, if you don't aimbot, why get angry at getting banned? It's the highest compliment an admin can pay you.

hambone, ns1 was spending 80% of its time idle when we had the pass on, and with it unpassworded we've built up a much larger base of regulars. So large that when we stick the pass back on every Wednesday, it's 18/18 with regulars playing CAL config for 6-8 hours. Besides, you found shampoo there so what've you got to complain about?*

On edit: gargle, another ban. Lagger, we should have a demo of you too.

Look, to everyone: if you don't hack and got banned from the ArsClan server, please go post in the Public Admin Forum.

Freemantle, thanks for the good thoughts.

*This was a joke, a little light-hearted japery if you will.

Funny thing ... I was just playing on Nano gridlock when an admin started asking if we wanted to play seige_006. I posted that if they switched to siege that I'd leave. Within two minutes I found myself PERMANENTLY banned. So, don't think there aren't lameass admins on the big servers too ...

Yes, 1.04 makes it very hard to be 100% sure of a cheater. Please, anyone who feels they were banned falsly, post your situation in the public admins forum at www.arsclan.net and us admins will dig up and review the demo/s and come to a final conclusion. The only way us "only human" admins can correct our mistakes, is when you guys speak up. We are very friendly here, and take contested bans with full heart and an open unbiased opinion.

^What they said. I've definitely seen contested bans overturned, and the link to the forum is presented every couple minutes in one of those annoying drop down messages - if you're sincere about wanting to clear your name.

Freemantle those were some good games - I especially liked how the some of the idiots on at 5am thought you were hacking when you had MT. The only reason I started getting upset with your friend is technically playing in the same location and providing information to someone else is a no-no. I know it was just in fun, but some of the other players got upset when he'd shout where the jet packs were coming from, where the team's gorge was, etc, etc. Hence why I recommended you just play on the same team... we try to keep everyone on the server happy. GG's regardless, hope to see you around more.

i was banned from this server. When I emailed an admin asking why he told me that i was caught hacking under some name i've never heard of. I emailed back and there's been no response :/

but it was a really good server. I don't know why CoFR and nano are so popular, they can't handle bast or hera but they both run it for some silly reason.

Feel free to contest the ban at the link Kavasa provided.
Bans on our server are handed out by WonID, not name, so you may want to rethink that gambit.
• laggerlagger Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1805Members
I would suggest wiping off all ban lists when 2.0 is released due to cd showing while in play and first person spectating it wont be long till you know who is cheating and who isnt. It will also allow me not to have to re-install 1.04 just to make a demo for you *laughs*

You don't need to make a demo. The admins have your demo, its on file somewhere.
• kavasakavasa Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11889Members, Constellation
lagger, we take demos of all the people we ban. So you don't need to reinstall 1.04 and take a demo or anything, just take the much easier step of registering and posting to that forum. Additionally, I just went through our banning threads and didn't spot your name or WonID, so there's a good chance that if we don't have you on record anywhere but the banlist, it gets overturned. All I ask is that before you say we're ridiculous nubs and we won't even consider your case, you post in the public admin forum. Seriously, that's all I ask. If that's really too much, email lemieux66_at_arsclan_dot_net. He's the NS senior admin and he's pretty much forced to deal with this stuff.

Lucid, the fact that your email went unanswered is pretty uncool, as that counts as contesting it, in my book. I have no idea why that happened, though - who you emailed, why it wasn't unanswered, etc. Maybe it just disappeared into the interweb. You too may post there.

I mean, there are a couple issues here. It's 1.04, and except for the most blatant people with a 90-degree range for target aquisition set on their aimbot, it can get really hard to spot who has an aimbot and who doesn't. I also think it stands to reason that there are more people with aimbots than with genuine skill. And lastly, we can't just go "oh it was a guy from eR or #cri or [one], better unban him" because then we're just big tools.

Finally, yes, we can't flipping wait for first-person spec. That will make things so much easier.

I don't see why people assume having CD next to your name is going to make you feel any safer on a server, or make an admin's job any easier. I could easily drop the links of web pages that provide cheats that gaurentee to circumvent cheating-death - as one must know one's opponents, and google is my friend. An admin can't be expected to ignore suspicious behavior because someone is wasting advertising their time running anti-cheat software. That said, first person spectating, I await thee.
• FreemantleFreemantle Join Date: 2002-06-16 Member: 783Members
Wow, didn't expect this topic to get so heated, and sorry about Chris (the guy looking off my screen). It was his first day on his new laptop and we spent the night lanning over my Wi Fi network. Occasioally he would pick his laptop up and sneak a peek at my screen when I wasn't looking.

And I enjoyed "InDaClub"'s accusations that I was too good with the pistol and I must have aimhacks and scripts. I wonder if he will ever see my sig...

The MT situation was funny as well, and I agree that first person spectating will make server admin's jobs easier, as VAC and CD are only as good as the vector programmers are bad. My experience on ARS actually made me consider competitive Natural Selection play again, as I had a falling-out in my previous experience.
