Will This Laptop Work For A Server?

I just acquired a PIII 750 Mhz laptop. I've formatted and put WinXP on it. It has 386 MB of PC133 RAM. Do you guys think it's fast enough to host a server at an upcoming LAN party? I hope it is!

A small server in 1.04, NS2 should run quite adequately on it though, maybe 12-14 slots.

So I could run 12-14 slots now, or after NS2? If it's now, what do you think NS2 could run?

Ns 2.0 will run on it but it's hard to say how well, I don't think any beta tester has a machine less then 1.9Ghz. I'm assuming you have cable or DSL since you didn't specify otherwise; to run anything over 4-6 players you will need at least 256kbps upload bandwidth, more being better.

The nice benefit to running a server on a laptop is it has a built in UPS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

/me pulls out 1.0 gl and shoots madly at impy he said lan, so the rates shouldnt be to much of a problem. I think as of now oyu could run a 10-12 player with lag at verious points.

Yes, it's at a LAN party. Bandwidth won't be an issue since it's at Utah State University, and we have 2 T3 lines for online bandwidth fun!

Anyway, I'm going to do a small 'mod' so i can maybe overclock it a little bit. It'll cost me $0.01 for the mod, and it'll be worth it. I'll see if I can get it to 833 or so mhz, and add a couple small fans blowing on the whole laptop to help it keep cool.

    Thanks for your guy's input!
