<i>In the event that you're using a trackball, there are emergency wastebins to your left (points left) and to your right (points right). If you feel uncomfortable sitting near the wastebin, please ask the stewardess to find you another seat. Please enjoy your game.</i>

I don't know... I've seen many computers with trackballs (including the air control room <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ) and it looked like the trackball does a pretty good job, when you get used to it.

Yah, trackballs are wierd and hard to use at first, but their ease of use and precisness once you get used to them is far superior <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You know those touchpads that come with laptops? Well, you can buy a touchpad 'attachment' or something for your computer -- and I know a guy who uses exclusively touchpads for his pointer-manipulation pleasure.

    Now, I think he's someone both dyed-in-the-wool mouse and trackball users can laugh at. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    optical mouse all the way.

using a trackball in NS is like having your marine gain the maneuverability of a wheelchair.

Using a trackball in NS is the only reason I am halfway decent at tge game. Like I said, once you get used to them, they rule, but it takes a while!

I used to work as a Training & Development Officer. We'd teach people jobskills. One time I had a load of disabled people from an organisation called Worklink. Worst thing ever - the organisation had lumped them together because they all had some disability. It soon turned out they had widely differing levels of experience with computers.

One lady had not even touched a computer. She could NOT use a mouse at all so freaked out after a while. I solved the problem by introducing her to a trackball. She liked it and grew proficient with it.

Basically it has its uses, but you need the proper equipment for different styles of gameplay. A sneak-em-up might utilise a trackball better than a Quake-style deathmatch fest.

If you don't have the desk space for a mouse, then by all means, track that ball. Otherwise, I'm sticking with my Wireless Optical MX700, kthnxbye.

my boss at work uses a trackball.

he is 60 and has the day off because of fluid retention.

This conclusively proves using a trackball is hazardous to your health, but will get you further in life.

A friend of mine is a professional graphic designer. He spends hours a day sitting in front of a computer screen, cranking out high-quality graphics.

He's been using a trackball for years, and the stuff he can do with it is astounding (<i>keep your minds out of the gutter!!!</i>). On a good day, he'll tap it once to give it a gentle spin and the cursor will move to <i>precisely</i> the spot he wants it. From <b>one tap</b>!!

    It's insane.

Too bad he sucks at FPS games. He'd be a worthy adversary if he had a lick of sense to fire rockets at the feet instead of trying for a headshot. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I would say standard mouse

trackballs are usually used when you can't use a mouse due to carpal tunnel/old age or something

    Trackball all the way.

How many of you who have tried to game with it spent longer than about 4 hours (Rough time it takes to learn it alright)

A trackball is the most precise pointer you can get. Even more so if you get a Logitech Trackball, they are VERY accurate.
You can track a skulk easilly as well as spin 1080 degrees in a second in the readyroom <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Evidently trackballs are evil little devices that suck your spelling ability out of your body.

I have a Logitech Optical mouse and it hasn't failed me once. Bloody great for gaming.

The only reason I would get a trackball would be if I got seriously into multiple monitors.

My optical mouse is just as accurate as any trackball, Someone else tried using my comp but the extremely high sensitivity on my mouse drove THEM nuts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

optical trackball... i have a microsoft trackball explorer.. with 5 buttons and a mousewheel....

you dont have to drive around on a mousepad..that saves space...its accurate...fast.. and you dont get exhausted on marathon sessions... and its helluva seksay with this glowing border around the ball..
