<div class="IPBDescription">ns_henacy - First S.S. Release</div> Check <a href='http://users.skynet.be/bk234542' target='_blank'>my site</a> for the newly released screenshots of ns_henacy.
I also could use some comments about the screenshots. I know you cant say much from screens but i dont want to give early releases for everyone. I have some skilled people who are going to test my map from the moment its playable for both species ( Marine start + 1 hive are ready) so i can start putting location entities and sound entities.

-> Check the site in a day or 2 , ill change the format of the images and put some new ones on i took from the hive and marine start.

For more question you can always contact me on irc :

    BMPs are no one's friend, compress those screenies to JPEG please.

    Didn't feel like waiting to review your BMPs - I have DSL and those BMPs were bogging my connection down, seriously a good GIF maybe even, PNG anything.

    EDIT: Alright I'll do it. Scroll down for three optimized JPEGs that'll take a second or two to load.

    IS your site experiencing any technical difficulties, or is that screen just very very big?
    I started loading it a few minutes ago, and it is still not loaded (And i have 0.5mbps adsl).

    Cause I'm one crazy mother I waited and took a screenie off his page, made it a JPEG and here it is.

    Tada!

    (the original bitmaps are a 9MB download <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    first pic:
    Well, colored lighting is fine, even used in a few sci-fi movies, but you should avoid like the pest on room with purple/blue colors next to one in khaki!
    the pipes don't look like pipes. use textures for pipes in areas where the player wont see it from the side. atm you just have some black stripes going over the room!

    second pic:
    yeah! that rox. very innovative. somewhat like the 'windows' in nothing with its white textures shining through a grid.

    third pic:
    plz correct the texture scale (if it is stretched) and set the wires' rendermode to solid. Why should they be fullbright? 'texture' also looks like crap with mipmapping imo. Also the small lights on the wall should be placed more randomly. Maybe use light entities instead of func_illusionaries. That would save you a few entities in-game because light entities without name or flicker are removed.

    fourth pic:
    freakin funky. looks good to me. refreshing style. set a minlight value for the door to avoid pitch black on the inner sides (you can see a thin black line on the high-res bmp inticating that)

    ok, that's all from me for now. If the gameplay is good this map could make it to some custom map servers ... without being a fun map <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    9mb? Oooo that should take me about 20 seconds...

    Strange, it didin't.

    And about the screens. That wall texture looks grocely overscaled. My eyes bleed...

    [edit]
    Oops, forgot to say what picture I was referring to. Number two in darkATI's lineup...

    Though the very last one is a little bit too dark, the rest are wonderful (keep the last one dark, just not TOO dark) and I really think it will be an excellent map. Nice lighting and coloring to <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Like i said i was going to change the bmp's to jpg's but i just dont had the time for it. I said that in my first post so WTH are you moaning about.
    The for nice comments nerdIII, at least something usefull <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Btw in the long black halls you have the ability to put lights on with 1 button at the side of the hive
    so aliens can put the light out/on before going trough. Also i made a breakable block who crosses the broken part of the higher walkway in picture 4 so if the aliens destroy that block the marines will have to go all around to get to the closest hive. Maybe i gonna make a weld-open vent between those rooms so if the marines want they can go around and weld that vent open so they get to hive easier again ... (yes/no ?)

    Btw don't forget that this is my first map i release ... i tried to make some be4 but i just hadnt all the knowledge yet. I know hammer almost now i guess <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Sorry but i dont know how to work with minlights value, i know where it stands but i never used it be4
    Can u explain what it does plz so i know what i do <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> and make my map even to a nicer non-fun map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Btw do you think this ever gets in official cycle when ever released <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Select your door, go to the properties page and disable Smart Edit. Then add a flag called 'minlight' and set it to a value from 0 to 1!

    If you expect me to download 9 megs on 56k just to look at a few screenies then you are having a laugh, so I'll just comment on the ones DarkATI posted (thanks).

    First and second screenshots are very funky, but in all honestly they look like they belong in a fun map. The energy column thigy is uber-cool tho.
    Third screenshot however is the business <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Very nice dark atmosphere. Try and keep that theme running through, although it does not all have to be quite that dark obviously.

    9 Mb in 20 secs, what is that like 3 Mbit? <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
  • InafiscisisInafiscisis Join Date: 2003-04-30 Member: 15965Members
    3mbit? Nope. approx. 500kbps...

    Soon enough, that 9mb download should take me 0,3 seconds...
    yay! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ok, enough bragging...

    9 * 1000000 * 8 = 72000000 bits

    72000000 / 20 = 3.6 million bits = 3.6 Mbit

    Or does my math suck?

    My question is, since all values are in mbs, why do you go down to bs?
    And where did you get the 8 from?
    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    0.5mbps     = my download speed (mb per second)
    9.0mb         = download size         (mb)

    Compute:

    9 / 0.5 = 18

    No, I think you're right. I have 11Mbps so those pics should have opened instantaneously.... maybe his server was down or something when I looked at them, oh well, either way I helped the 56k community out with those JPEGs. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    0.5 Mega BITS
    Not Megabytes

    0.5 Megabits
    9.0 Megabytes

    Different Story.

    [off-topic]Why don't they have a convention for it. Like Mb = mega bit and MB = mega byte? Unfortunatly I saw different hard- and software producers handle that differently. Hey! Let's just write it out <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> [/off-topic]

    Right, or did you think a 56k modem could download a 100KB file in less than 2 seconds? No... usually you will get a 5KB dowload rate and that makes *rofl* the 9MB pictures a 30 minutes lasting adventure! No kidding. It's the truth. Poor boy, I don't want to see you downloading NS 2.0 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Annoying colored lighting and dark is a very bad thing.
