How to get your computer and your PS2 using the same connection for sorta-dummies-who-know-what-they-are-doing-I-guess:
1) Get a hub. Routers are trouble. 2) Get two Cat5 cables. 3) Connect your external modem to your hub, then connect the Cat5s from the hub to the PS2 Network Adapter and your computer's NIC. 4) Voila. Just don't use massive bandwidth on your computer while you play. It causes you to drop a lot in SOCOM. (If that's what you're playing.)
1. Take PS2, and place it aside. 2. Go to EB, buy an X-Box. 3. Buy a X-Box LiVE starter kit. 4. Purchase one of the following: Return to Castle Wolfenstein Midtown Madness 3 MechAssault Any recent Sega Sports game.
Enjoy! :-)
Halo2 will pwn every other console game out there.
And CF's explanation is dead on. You could also swap your network cable from your computer to your PS2 to save on the hub. And I have a Router with LIVE, and it works nice. :-)
XBox has maybe 6-8 good games. PS2 has about 50. Which is the better deal? PS2. Though I don't want to start a big console war, so I'm not going to argue further.
You might not want a console war, but by golly you're gonna get it!
Actually, I don't are about console wars. I have both, and I prefer X-Box for Live, 4 controller ports, better graphics, and expansion options (downloadable content). While both system have many good games, any game on both PS2 and Xbox will be better on X-Box. Its a near fact :-)
The only GTA3 and Vice City are the only titles that strike me as killer apps for PS2 (although its rumored VC will becoming to Xbox sans the GTA tag... loophole in the contract). X-Box has Halo as its single killer app, though rumors that Starcraft: Ghost is being bought as an X-box exsclusive are nice.
It comes down to the games. I prefer the games on X-Box :-)
Doesn't X-box live has a monthly subscription fee? In which case, <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> on your Halo 2, we can play SOCOM for free.

Seriously, though, there is downloadable content on the PS2. It's just not very popular yet. It'll get WAY more popular when the PSBB (Hard drive) is out.
It just costs too much to get online with PS2 efficently. Hard Drive, Network Kit, Game. X-Box, you pay a 50 dollar fee for 1 year (and a headset) for a much better experience. Plus, if you don't like it, don't renew your subscription to the service... Plus software like XBConnect lets you play Network games (ie, lan but not live enabled) like Halo online :-) Its win win win1!!!!
I plan on owning all three systems before Summer is out so I'll say this...
GameCube is good for a few exclusive games (Metroid Prime, PSO ver 1 & 2, Pikmin, Rogue Squadron's, Eternal Darkness & Zelda Games, and GBA connector thingy)
Xbox is good for Online & Exclusive games (Halo 1 & 2, Wreckless, Mech Assault, Ghost Recon, RTCW, Fable (when it's released), Ninja Gaiden (ditto)
PS2 is good for all round games, not really online though. Onimusha 1 & 2, GTA3, GTA: VC, FFX, Ico, MGS2 & MGS3 and such.
I found Tenchu a little...boring, simply because it seems to be the same thing. Wait for guy to walk by, drop down, repeat stealth kill animation. Rinse, lather, repeat. ad nauseam.

As to the specifics of this i don't know, all i know is it's possible.

4. Purchase one of the following:

Go being an utter geek and loving games!
You forgot Tenchu 3. D: You will pay.
