Have you guys seen the new pics of the NS models at planet Halflife ? (PHL =P)

Commander Module

New HMG

Quote

The first image shows a view of our Marine commander as he logs into the command console, prior to it sealing and activating his top-down view of the battefield. Model and texture by Cory, animations by Mojo.
The second image shows a render of our finalized Marine Heavy Machine Gun. This dual-barrel monster holds a hundred rounds in the magazine, and its high damage and rate of fire is offset by its cumbersome weight and slow reload times. Model and texture by BathroomMonkey, Animations by def_One.

I must say, I really like both of these renders. Notice how much the new HMG looks sort of simular to the Red Faction HMG. Unless it was planned earlier, I'm glad to see user's ideas being used.

I'm guessing this is how reloading the HMG works: When the black flap thing (I know it has a name but I forgot what that certain part is called) is up the "ammo canister" can be removed as a whole and then replaced with another, instead of having to manualy feed in the belt of ammo.

Am I correct?

Thanks for the linkage, but it's more commonly reffered to as "PHL". The new command module looks awsome, far different than what I was thinking in mind. Anyways I don't think it's possible for one now, but in a later realese I hope they have an animation done for a Marine to get in. As for the new HMG, I think it was really nicely done. Gosh, can't belive the Marines are expected to hold that much for the whole game, LOL. Actually I like the reflection of the screen's glare to the "floor" of the CC, but I don't like the texture of the "floor" itself, it should have an older effect. Also I think that the CC Icon(the neon blue pic of the old CC way) should be lowered, that way the sign won't be sticking out. One last thing is, I feel very sorry for the mappers that can't make the new CC fit into your map well. But you should have read the info they gave. BTW, what does "VTRMW" mean?

methinks the cc's floor will look fine if it is in an area without so many colored lights... unless the colored lighting is textured in (ewww)... cant wait to see more... keep hammering away at the release tho...

The colored lights are just in the rendered pic.

In the game the marine does appear inside and is animated a bit while the front section is closing shut. There is no animation of him actually climbing into it, but you really don't miss it when you're playing.

What does VTRMW mean? Um...it's a secret. Yeah

Wow. That's really great! Even so, I'm still going to have to redesign the area where the CC goes, 'cos it'll look kind of odd at the moment

I _love_ the new HMG. It feels so much more like what a HMG shoud be like. Great work to all concerned!

I need to point out that it sounds incredible too. My favorite sounding weapon of all.

I must note that the CC looks like it would fit easily in a "The Sims" house, heh. Still looks great!

both pics from phl are great.... i personally like the look of hmg, the old looks nice too but this one look more cumbersome/more heavey. When that baby fires i'm sure the alien at the other end of the barrel has just become a noodle strainer.

ah, hehe, maybe we can talk maxis into giving us the tools to make an NS mod for "The Sims" lol!

Hmm, the new HMG model reminds me of the gatling gun on the back of the jeep in HALO. I wonder if it will sound as deadly (and fire as fast).
  • RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
I liked the old HMG but the new one is also very good. Will the CC-console have a opening/closing animation? Can you see the marine when it's closed or is this picuture the "closed"-state?
  • MCThornGristleMCThornGristle Join Date: 2002-06-06 Member: 733Members
I always pictured the command center being more imposing - like a large tower with a chair and console at the top or something. It still looks good, anyways.
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Yep, CC is animated, and opens and closes. When sealed, you don't see the commander, as he is enclosed in his little VR world.

A large tower and chair and such sounds a bit too regal. Not to mention it'd give the mappers absolute fits.

The key is that all of this stuff is small - it's the "field version" of their technology, designed to be compact and transportable. I think the modellers have captured the essence of this perfectly.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
and doesn't require a reason as to why you can't see the commander at the console as some people would otherwise whine about
  • MCThornGristleMCThornGristle Join Date: 2002-06-06 Member: 733Members
Yeah, I'm sure the little VR pod is best for mappers. But whenever I pictured this game it was with something that looked like the Vault Overseer's command chair from Fallout - you know, the one with the miniguns that could pop out and blow you away if you sassed him? Heh.

I believe the model has to leave (in the NSTR you dissapear). I believe they need the model to close up.
