<div class="IPBDescription">A brief history</div> The 122nd Regimental Combat Team had an extensive history dating back to the last great war, but only a handful survived it. They had the highest loss rate of any regiment in the war, but they also had the most honors. Private Johnathan Bishop was one of the 6 survivors of the 1,700 men that composed the regiment. They were mostly green, but a wound on their backs you would not find.

Almost 20 years later, first contact with the Kharaa was made. The 122nd was hastily reinstated, with Colonel Bishop as officer in charge. The men of the newly reformed 122nd Rapid Reaction regimental combat team were mostly green. Bishop knew them all by name. He was strange that way… no one knew how long it took him to remember them all, but he felt it was important, although the rookies of the 122nd would not know why till much later.

Almost immediately after the Kharaa struck the outposts on the moons orbiting Saturn, the 122nd was sent to evacuate the Colonists on the remote research station on a moon orbiting Jupiter. When they reached the station, they were to disembark from the transports, oversee the evacuation of the colonists, return to the transports and escape before the Kharaa arrived. Unfortunately, when the 122nd got there, they were informed that the colony was overcrowded with almost 500 refugees who barely escaped the initial Kharaa attack near Saturn. There was not enough room for all of them.

The 1,682 men and women of the 122nd stayed. They would stall the Kharaa as long as they could, and enable the refugees to take their places on the transport.

The massive transports took off and sped home, and although they promised they’d return, Bishop and every marine there knew that they’d never get back in time.

The first wave of Kharaa hit 6 hours later. They were the advanced scouts. The marines held back eight more waves until they’re ammo was exhausted, and in that time the Marines even attempted a counterattack, but to no avail. On the ninth wave, the Kharaa broke through a weak point in the regimental line. They stormed through the hole like a flood, and there was no stopping them. Over half of the survivors were down to their knives. The regiment was shattered.

The 122nd stopped 2 more waves, and held out for another hour.

Then the Kharaa made one final push and the last of the 1,682 marines were slaughtered just as the sun came up on that cold, isolated moon. They were mostly green... but a wound in their backs you would never find.

Reminds me of those "its-too-hot-to-land-a-bird-down-there" situations, where you are screwed because command didn't want to risk a couple dropships to save your sorry arse.

Woooo these guys were army eh? Marines normally don't work with such large numbers. Specially in one big group, I know why they died, their commander didn't have a build dropship menu heh. And the distress beacon only stretches out three hundred meters, that's a disaster waiting to happen.

Ooo Ooo I forgot to tell you! You're writing at the end was good, even though I couldn't get the image of large scale battle in my head I liked the part "-not a wound in their back would you find."
