Meh, RF was a shoddy game, in the end. with all the hype it got it just didn't compare.

just lower your gamma to where it should have been anyways, n00b
in all seriousness, it's pretty dark if you play it normal. I think you mean the shadows&such, since I don't think HL can handle that.
If it were on Doom 3 I might just soil myself when a skulk pops up from a floor grate and mauls me out of no where.
Not just the darkness but the shadow and light effects as well as a cool looking engine.
But the better the effects are the better the atmosphere is, but with Source and Doom3 your pretty much correct. But I think It would be going a little far to say HL can have better atmosphere than such a far superior engine such as source or doom3 based on how much work was put into it. Atmosphere just isn't some engine's thing.

Argh, what the f3ck is the point of these posts? Every other topic gets smarta$$ remarks or facts explained to the original posters that - HELLO - EVERYONE KNOWS ALREADY. And most of these have this irritating "Flayra this" and "Flayra that" and "Flayra said" tone. The most pointless ones are posts like these where the person replying has probably only read the thread topic and, as seen in this case, not even that too well.
People jump at anything, IMHO, just to get a chance to get all smart about something. And way too early/easily, I might add.

Also just to be on topic, i honestly think HL is fine for NS. I'd take a player base of tens of thousands over flashy graphics anyday, and apparently so would a lot of people, hence why HL is still alive and well.
Well anyways, I would have liked to see Natural Selection on the Quake 3 engine; why quake 3 you ask? because its the best my shoddy computer can handle .
with the ability to modify the terrain (to perhaps a greater extent than red faction) you could, instead of opening the door normally, WELD IT OPEN LIKE YOU SHOULD.
really, in a interview i read you could either use the gravity gun to knock down the door, use a flame thrower to burn it away (if its wood) use a grenade to blow it up or open it normally. there's also things like drapes and stuff that when you walk into them they move and such like walking into a real drape would. (there's even dust in the levels that are specified by the mapper... no more using entities with fade textures to simulate light beams i think. )
also a single-player mode would be possible since the HL2 AI is designed to figure out how best to help/hurt you. (no more running blindly into that auto-turret! ) ntm it handles outside areas nicely this time. ([you can be outside in a street, and get fair FPS from your machine. try that in HL and you die])
besides, im sure HL2 will completly stomp the HL mod scene 1.5 years after release.
Yes, yes it will.
