Haven't Read This In The Changelogs Yet

1 tiny thing
Example:

You're a gorge with 76/100 ress
You haven't gotten any upgrades yet, but new dc's have just become available
You decide to get a dc upgrade
Your ressource max goes down to 33/33
After gestating you'll get some of your ress back, but often you'll lose about 30 => 50/100 or so

My point:
Is this adressed in 2.0?

I just read the changelog, couldn't find it, if you can, I'll give you a cookie...

The cap is fixed at 100 if you're gorge or not so you don't have to worry about that anymore. However, the "pool" is gone but the rp you get if you had less than 100 is spilt among the rest I believe.

I really thought that having 70 rps and going back down to 33 was just a visual effect but gave you back all the rps after the next tick?

nope... in 1.04 and lets say you had 100/100 res and you evolved and got a new DC ability... then you go down to 33/33 and the rest goes into the pool and gets distrubited to the rest.... it really kinda suxd but im glad its fixed for 2.0

There is no overflow at all if the whole alien team is capped at 100/100 the res doesnt get put into a pool waiting for an alien to use some of it's res. So basically any res that the alien team gets when all the team is capped is discarded.

It did, if all others players were at max res. You'd lose your res, it'd go into the pool but stay there as there was noone to hand it out to, you'd finish evolving and get your res back.
Which reminds me of the game where I was gorge, everyone was maxed out and the pool was chock-full o' res. OC spammage.

Although this isn't 100% on topic, I believe it is relevent. If you have four or more hives, aliens have a maximum of 133 (or more if there are more then 4 hives) resources, unless your a gorge, which always has a 100 source cap. So if you are a gorge while there are 4 hives and you gestate an upgrade, you'll have a 133 source capacity, but you'll return to 100 as soon as your a gorge again.

    Yeah, one with a bridge.

Hmmm, so if all aliens are maxed out, the res just goes no where?
What about the marines, I'm guessing it just keeps going, and going, and going, and going, and going...........
  • FiendHZFiendHZ Join Date: 2003-04-04 Member: 15201Members
Does sound kinda unfair. I say they should put back in the pool, and then when peopleoverflow, it jsut goes into there, and help out the team for a couple reasons.

    1) It's a team based game, and this helps the team.

    2) It seems kidna unfair otherwise, on the chance the aliens max out their res (every alien has 100 except the gorges and they are onii) and the marines can still hold them off (maybe it's a 2 hive lockdown and each team has half the res, and neither team can make headway. I've seen things kinda like that in 1.04, it's just only a 1 hive lockdown in that when it happens). The marines still are getting all this res to spend on more turrets, mines, outfitting the marines as soon as they spawn, but the aliens don't. Take the two cases. Marines gets HA/HMG, for a total investment of say, 50 (not sure how much it is, but 50 sounds appropiate). He goes out and dies right off the bat (maybe he sucked, I dunno). But since the marines have no limit, that's not a big deal, they can just refit him out of their pool (this is assuming both sides have been saving for a while, otherwise, how would the aliens have gotten so high?). Now say the same thing happens to an alien. He goes Onos, using up all his res (I think onos is 100). So he's back to scratch. And say he really sucks too, so he dies right off the bat (or maybe he runs into a big group of HA/HMGers or seomthing, I dunno). Well, he's back to squat, and can't instantly go Onos again, because there's no pool to fill him up. If you wanna keep it still individual, make it personal pools instead of a team pool.

    The pools are individual,

How often do you get 600 res as rines? That's how often every alien player will be maxxed on res in 2.0
  • ZERGZERG Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13132Members, Constellation
If all aliens players are maxed out in a 8 person team, that's 800 res just sitting around.

Yeah, you would think that they would actually use it or something. I rarely have more than 70 res if I have good flow. Constantly altering attack strategies or whatever.

Unless I'm just playing skulk the entire game
  • FiendHZFiendHZ Join Date: 2003-04-04 Member: 15201Members
Exactly. Say you play as skulk for a LONG time, and top out you res, and don't use it. I do it fairly often in 1.04 (I don't like Onos at all, and sometimes skulks are funner than fades. Or I'll go lerk, but it's still easy to top out a lerk). To help the team, I'd say comunal pool, but it'd be almost as good to have a personal pool, so if tey decided to go onos suddenly (maybe they weren't winning or making any headway at all and they thought one more onos might help. Or maybe they are having the whole team onos to try and break through). Okay, say the marines rush your base and take you out while your in an egg (it's happened before, and I bet it will in 2.0 too). There goes all the 100 res, and you saving up and playing skulk because you like skulk more is pointless, because you tried to help your team.Even having personal pools could help that. I mean, if that happened to me just once, I'd think twice about ever going onos again, which could hurt the team in the long run (okay, so maybe not think twice forever, but at least for the the rest of this game). No, it's not going to help out teams in short games, or in the ideal 10-15 minutes NS game that the team is shooting for, or at least, not much (Not sure about how fast the res is in 2.0, you might be able to top out wityhin 15 minutes. I doubt it though, if only because of res delays. Which I think sounds dumb, but I'll wait until I play for judgement, so lets not turn this into a discussion about that). But it will in the longer, more epic games, if even one person decides to stay skulk and top out if can help the rest of the team.

If you stay skulk forever those res will go to the other players once you cap. It's not automatically lost.

IIRC, The res only gets thrown away if EVERY alien player is capped at the same time. Frankly, that should not happen.

A single good Gorge can blow through res at an incredible pace by himself.
  • Frogg2Frogg2 Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4867Members, Constellation
FYI the whole alien team will never max out.

    Why?

You need 100 res to max out, no one will just sit around with just 100 res since you can evolve to all aliens now.
  • FiendHZFiendHZ Join Date: 2003-04-04 Member: 15201Members
    Let me specify:

If when you cap, it does go to the other players, then okay, I was thinking wrong, and the system is fine.

If when you cap, everything you would normally get is jsut tossed, then soemthing needs to be done, at least, in my opinion.
  • eggmaceggmac Join Date: 2003-03-03 Member: 14246Members
afaik it's tossed, but you never ever sit on 100 res, only if you're winning already. You could easily go gorge, drop 8 ocs, 4 dcs and then skulk again, for instance.

Actually i think taking out the res pool is a nice idea, seeing as how in some games you can take alien teams hives out, only to have them put them back up again as soon as your gone because the gorge has res coming out his....well, you get the idea.

Though i'm sure it'll still be like that anyhow if you let them get enough RTs

Eggmac, please be more specific. Tossed when _who_ is capped? One player, or all?

Hida Tsuzua and Frogg2 both seem to insinuate that res are only tossed when ALL players are capped. Is this your belief or not?
  • eggmaceggmac Join Date: 2003-03-03 Member: 14246Members
As someone mentioned already, every alien has his own individual res pool with a maximum of 100 res. I don't know exactly, but I'm quite sure that when you hit 100 res, there is no overflow to other aliens.

And just fyi, hives are getting up and down pretty fast in 2.0. In our last scrimm we had to kill each hive at least 3 times.

The 1.04 res "bug" can be very handy.

As gorge, get your 3 RTs (total), and your 3 DCs, but don't get any upgrade. Save for and build 2nd hive. Then save all your res again, you should easily be back up to 100 by the time the hive finishes, if not topped out and overflowing to your pool by then. As soon as the hive finishes, get cara/regen/redemp...67 of your res just flowed to the pool, aka the team. TADA, you have a whole team maxed out at 66 res right after the 2nd hive goes up...and Fades gestating. If you pooled more than you can..you'll get back whatever is left to build again.

This can be a costly strat as you will have little or no OCs and DCs around the map to stop the marines, but if your skulks are good, they can hold them back long enough, and shortly enough, you have a couple Fades running around, and Marines **** their little pants
