Power Supply Went Boom :(
<div class="IPBDescription">Nooooo!</div> As I was typing out my witty review of Terminator 3 my computer just shuts off... but the alarm clock hooked into the same surge protector is still on <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> I take off the case and smell that scent of burnt out electronics coming from the power supply box. The power on button dosent do anything either <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
The thing is both POS Compaq computers I have (one working fine, another for spare parts) neither of them has had any of their hardware burn out. Not sure if I should try hooking up the power supply from my spare parts system, since they are a bit different (old PS: 2 plugs into the mobo, new burned out PS: one single plug into the PS).
Blah, I will have to get the guy who built it to look at it tomarrow <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I recommend that you purchase a quality PSU, like Antec truepower or Enermax. They are worth the extra bucks compared to cheaper but more unreliable PSU like Q-tech.
My grandfathers PC's motherboard blew
And my old family's PC's powersupply blew.
Fun.

ok, the 2 piece connector for the mobo from the psu is called a AT - old style. it used a seperate switch to the psu directly to turn the computer on. new style = ATX the single plug. it uses a softstyle of switching on through the mobo. so if you wanted to get a new psu make sure you get a ATX, heck i dont think they even sell AT's even more i have like 9 of them on my shelves-0-computer junk. you should be able to pick up one up for 20 bucks if the wattage req. is low enough
Did you get a new family? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
