I was wondering if someone here could make me a sig and possibly an avatar to go along with it to. I have seen most amazing work here and I would love to have a little piece of it

-Doesn't have to be fancy just a nice NS sig.

Wow! Thanks Fam, great work once again, hehe. Any chance of a avatar too?

Wow, that was fast. So Fam...perhaps you have time for me as well? You can decide what it should look like, but it might be good if it went along with my evil overlord persona...

I personally like Flay's Avatar... no matter how much he begs, don't give him a new one!!

If I get any time from.. well, you know, I will have a go. I suppose an animated gif of you dancing isnt within the realms of possibility is it?

But I agree with coil, your current avatar works very well, everyone can recognise you. Maybe a signature though?

Oh no, keep the avatar, that should stay. I'm talking about a sig though (something small (?) and tasteful though...maybe lingering infestation).

I dont like working with that infestation. Its too artsy-fartsy for my liking.

Oh yes, and no using this yet. Im going to try to create a radial transparent dither for the grey one. Wish me luck.

I like the infestation, but not the rest of it. I definitely don't need my name in there. I think a thin, rectangular sig would look nicer. Maybe just the infestation? Maybe you could make it alphaed out on the edges? We should probably take this to e-mail...

Aww shucks, thanks.

Anyhow, I use Photoshop 5.5 and a lot of practice. A LOT of practice. It makes up for my lack of real artistic ability. ^_^

You need to give me a sig tutorial sometime Fam. I suck at anything that isn't webpage-esque. My pride & Joy is that charles taught me how to do scanlines.
• LegionnairedLegionnaired Join Date: 2002-04-30 Member: 552Members, Constellation
yes, tutorial would be great, i really wanna make my own sig.

I have gimp, it's free, and has all the same features as photoshop, i think, soo..

I can't really teach you what isn't a specific set of instructions, but rather just experience with Photoshop tools and an eye for colour and shape.

Just the one thing: A sig is not just to say your name, and show off any pretty filters, but rather just to give an easily recognised picture that becomes synonimous (spelling?) with the person. As you can see, most of the sigs I do have a pretty undetailed background, and just the words stand out to quickly impact the viewer, but small enough so as not to affect the information on a page.

Okay, fam, you know you are psycic right? I wanted to make gunsmoke for my original sig but i didn't know how. What did you use to do that? And your background too! Howdid you make that hive-esque thingy?
• FamFam Diaper-Wearing Dog On A Ball Join Date: 2002-02-17 Member: 222Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Hive orange = speckled cutout clouds with some drawing and smudging and the like.

Hive green = the NS infestation overlays with a slight drop shadow (not effects, done manually, PS5.5 remember?).

Smoke = white paintbrush, smudged. That took about 10 seconds.

I don't know if Flayra still is interested, but i gave it a try and made a sign for him (well, two variations). I will post them in two different posts since my webspace is full and you can't attach more than one image per post.
Version one (more clean and proffesional i think):
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
And version two (with a bit more "artistic" Flayra):

I like ramses's sig. I might give it a shot.

As for a sig tutorial, it just doesnt work that way guy. being able to do the nice stuff like fam and ramses (and me) do takes TONS of hands-on experience, and lots of experimentation. It'll take you at least 8 months before you can start making nice artistic stuff without using some kind of tutorial, or help from anything or anybody, and 8 months would be if you try really hard and spend alot of time at it.
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
Well, it's fascinating to see how powerful some filters/functions in the modern paintprograms lik Photoshop and Paintshop pro are but Tzarcon is right:
There is no tutorial on "How to create cool stuff".
But there are tons of tutorials on little steps, like "how to create glowing text" or "how to create realistic pipes" or "How to use XXXfilter" and so on. Just read all tutorials you can find and work nonstop with the programm you want to learn and have a -bit- of artistic talent and it should work.
If you need some links, visit http://www.google.com and search for 'tutorial' 'your-programm' 'whatdoyouwanttoknow'...
