I even tried to use diffrent versions of hammer, but no, all versions are like that.. ;\

my system info: <@SjN|here> [moo] cpu[1-Intel Pentium 4, 1599MHz, 512KB (15% Load)] os[Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1 (5.1 - 2600)] uptime[1hr 3mins 7secs] resolution[1280x1024 32bit 60Hz] memory[Usage: 178/256MB (69.53%)]
I have Geforce 2 MX 400, 64mbs card.

Hammer is old and buggy, regular crashes normal, but complete system-crashes are rare.
    - Check your prozessor and ram temperature if its hot in your room.
    - When you use the latest hammer beta just stop using it and use a non beta versions.
    - There are also ways to underclock/slowdown the speed of Hammer to make it crash less quickly.
could be on the valve collective site.

you need to turn off advanced drawing accelerations. open up control panel --> display --> advanced --> troubleshoot --> then drag the hardware acceleration bar to "disable all cursor and advanced drawing accelerations.

    crash free hammer <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

There's always option B) Quit using hammer altogether and switch to Quark. I've only had it crash 2 or 3 times in all the time I've been using it and I've never lost any map work I've done. ( even if it crashes you can still save your map and then close and restart ) There's a webbed thread with info where you can get Quark and the NS files for it.

my whole system crashes, not just hammer, and every like 30 minutes? sometimes even 5.. .if i'm lucky .. 1 hour.
then it takes like 1 minute to load, and then it does scan disk for like 5 minutes!!! ;(

i'm gonna try disabling Hardware acceleration.

    thanks!

    *Edit

er...maybe you want to use QuArK or QERadiant? These are the two alternatives to using Hammer veeeerrrry slooooowwwly.

    QuArK:
    <a href='http://www.planetquake.com/quark/' target='_blank'>QuArK Website</a>
    You will need:
    <a href='http://dl.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?quark/snapshots/quark64_snap2003mar29.zip' target='_blank'>Latest Alpha version of QuArK (I use it without complains)</a>
    <a href='http://dl.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?quark/minipy15b.exe' target='_blank'>Mini Python (for QuArK's scripts)</a>
<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=10342' target='_blank'>The Thread with the entities and mod description of NS for QuArK</a>
    and maybe also:
    <a href='http://dl.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?quark/Releases/help_package/quark_help_20030329.zip' target='_blank'>Help Documents</a>
(unzip them into your QuArK folder into a new folder called 'help')
If you need help, just PM one of us QuArK users. It is a bit confusing to set up QuArK for the first time I admit.

    QERadiant:
    <a href='http://halflife.qeradiant.com/' target='_blank'>QERadiant for Half-Life Website</a>
Well all the info is on the page

disabling hardware acceleration should not make hammer run slow or your comp! i learned about this 2 years ago when i first started mappin (hammer would crash all the time @#1r!!) so a friend told me about this fix and my comp hasn’t crashed since, even with multiple large rmf's loaded at once.

thanks Nerd i'll check it out!

Moose, maybe i should restart after disabling?
cuz after i disabled, when i tried to open mirc, it took like 0.5 seconds to load it... when usualy it takes 0.001 secs =P
