Once again, I realize I'll have to hunt for the English language files of Arcanum.
Anyway, Fallout1, 2, and Arcanum are pretty unique. Generally, I'd suggest taking a look at Biowares RPGs, especially Planescape: Torment. It isn't exactely like Fallout, in that you can't choose your character absolutely freely and the plot is pretty thick, but it's nonetheless pretty much the best 'serious' RPG ever created and should thus appeal to you.
