now, WHY do you want to turn it off? b/c leaving a fire wall on is always a good idea (well almost always)

not to be mean, but thats one of the dumbest things ive heard in a while

zone alarm pro firewall
and the XP firewall going

more is better with firewalls and security 8)

and seeing how as you probalby are not running any sorta servers, just don't play with it.

Heres my two cents. Im going to be getting a networking certif in a few months. Anyway here goes. From my experience, anyone will hack you regardless of firewall. Firewalls are alot like security blankets, they make you feel warm and safe. But they dont keep everyone off. What I usually do is DISABLE the sorry excuse for a firewall that XP has and use zonealarm. Sure its a freebe version but people stopped stealing my IP addy tho. =) ANyway heres how to disable it. Go Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network&Internet Connection->Right click your connection to the internet->Properties->Hit the advanced tab, uncheck the firewall, say OK to any prompts and your good to go. Anyway, Heres a comment from me to the post. The point of tech support forum is to try and help somebody, just because he dosen't want to use it dosen't make him stupid, a n00b, or any of that crap. The only good a firewall does is it stops the script kiddies and newbie hackers.

If someone really wanted to break into your system they'd spend time observing it, and would probably be able to predict or circumvent your firewall activation.

first of all no one is going to 'hack' any of our systems.

next up the point of a fire wall is to block the CONSTANT probingthat goes on (it knocks out net sends also)

If you ever wana see what is actualy happening, tell your firewall to log all requests at your IP addy. then do a google for those port numbers. You then get to find out just what they were probably trying to land on your system.

yalls have watched Hackers one to many times (as a side note I love that movie)
