Immunity To Ants

<div class="IPBDescription">i think i am immune to ants now...</div> This is a little weird.....

I share a large (practically huge) room with 2 of my younger brothers (and they both are messy and food is almost always around, specially near the PC).

Seems to me that the ants made a nest INSIDE my keyboard.
I estimate at least 800-1000 red ants.
At first, i was thinking of changing keyboards, they kept stinging me and distracting me as i play NS....
But i grew a tolerance to the sting (by playing NS, i didnt wanna get bitten by a skulk, so i never bothered to brush the ants off my arms LOL)....
By this time, the sting is very very weak.
Then a few days later (today), the sting is doesnt bother me at all, and the weird thing is....
The place where i am bitten, NEVER swells up.

am i weird or is this possible to happen to any normal person?

I'd say you're weird, just by default. What normal, sane person plays computer games with ants climbing all over his arm, lol?

i dont think they bite me anymore...

ant stings are "stearic acid" if i remember correctly (2:35 am is not a good time for remembering).

I'd figure you'd be able to gain some sort of immunity to it after a while...

It's like with diseases. If you get one once, your body knows how to fight it better the next time. Understanding your enemy. I fight Flayra once, I lose. I fight him again, I might stand a better chance because I know what he will do, and I could counter it. Very, very interesting.

    ARGH!!

I dont think im 100% immune.

Out of the 80+ ants (estimate) that bit me the last hour... I only recieved 2 small bumps on my arm...

    I guess 2 out of 80+ ants bites isnt bad <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Same thing with me. I was appearantly stung in the forhead by a wasp last week, but I didn't notice until my girlfriend pointed it out to me. I haven't been able to feel insect stings since I was 12. I think my system has an immunity too.

That's so cool. I hate Wasps. Actually, I hate pretty much anything that stings, including: Mosquitos, Wasps, Bees, Hornets (Ack! HL!), yellowjackets...

Ok that's totally out of line. You can't beat well done steak.

Not an immunity, a tolerance. Try again after not getting bit for a week and it'll hurt again.

And, dude, switch keyboards. Maybe one of those flexible things.
  • homerxhomerx Join Date: 2003-04-01 Member: 15094Members
    Legionnaired,

    Your kinda missing the point.

The "hurt" or "pain tolerance" isnt what's the weirdest....

The very weird thing is that my skin doesnt get swollen anymore, unlike normal peoples skin.

Ok, i think youv found an imunity o most of the ants bite.
Leave a trail of food into a plate. Spray some deoderant on it first. Let the ants climb all over it and burn them to hell.

i took some pictures of my keyboard using my nokia 7650 (its got a built-in camera), but its very very blurry.... ill try to get better pics with a better camera soon <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Just now,

A couple of ants bit my left wrist a couple of times, i squished them, no problem, no swollen skin.

Then one (1) ant trekked all the way to my.. ahem.. balls.. it made me jump a little, but again, no swollen skin.

Later, some ants bit various parts of my body, and again, no swollen skin.

After that, one (1) ant went up to my left eyelid and bit it, it got swollen...

    WHY?!?

could this be that some bites can still get thru my so-called "immunity"?

or are just some parts of the body more sensitive than the others?

Spray the whole thing with raid and wait a few hours, if they aren't all dead, bring it outside, cover it with oil, and drop a match.

It's the immune system. You know, the thingy that kills rhesus children and gets horribly owned by HIV. Try ant poison.

What kind of keyboard holds 800-1000 ants?!

Oh god. If I were in your place, I'd hire someone with a flamethrower to toast that room. I can't stand bugs. Ants make me nervous, but mosquitoes and spiders and stuff make me run away. Literally.

Actually, stearic acid comes from animal fats. Ant acid (the stuff in ant bites) is actually formic acid.

The swelling that comes from an insect bite comes from an allergic reaction. Your immune system reacts to the foreign chemicals, causing the swelling and pain and such associated with the bite. After prolonged exposure, your body no longer reacts to the chemical, thus preventing any reaction from occuring. This is how allergy shots work.

By the way, you should look into getting a new keyboard.

I'd take the keyboard and dump it into a vat of water or something, that i could see through, and watch all the little **** come swimming out.

I can beat steak. All I do is shoot it full of holes, to make it non-stringy and stuff, then I chew it up, then kill Comprox for saying it.

train them to do your bidding, then you can send them out to bring you back food and stuff, you'll never need to leave your room again.
