<div class="IPBDescription">Interested in knowing what I would need.</div> Hello all,

I am looking to setup a box to run some NS servers off.

I would like to host 2-3 NS servers with 1.04 (16 player) and possibly a webserver (with one or two domains max)

I was thinking something around the 2.4ghz - 2.6ghz (p4) with 1-2gb of ram would do the job ... that itd comfortably fit 2 16p NS servers, but would probably struggle with 3?

Feedback Please <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    For what it's worth, I had a single-proc p4 1.8 on a lan, running one 16 player server with 10 people on. The pings hit 1200 after a while, although that might have had something to do with turret- and mine-spam. Poor laptop nearly melted.

    Edit: was running gentoo linux, stock kernel 2.4.20, and has DDR266 ram

    Edit 2: Once the fades came round, we all got connection problem, and then KA-BOOM!!!! My god, I swear the level nearly fell apart. You could hear and feel the explosion from the other side of the map! (nothing, i think)

    Edit 3: Oops, silly me, just checked its bios and the CPU was in low power mode. Oops <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    probably had more to do with it being a laptop tbh.

    i run an athlon 1.4 GHz 512 DDR266 and it's fine with 16 players (most of the time). i run nothing else on that box at all (win32).

    you might be OK with 2 16 player servers, should be fine in 1.1 though I'm a bit dubious about 1.04 tbh.

    you can only run 1 NS server on 1 cpu.

    doesnt realy matter what cpu, because even if u take a 3.06 GHz u still cannt manage to run 2 NS servers with 16 slots on it.

    just take 3 P4 1.8 GHz or XP 2000 boxes with 256 or 512mb ram.

    what about a dual xeon (2.8ghz) .. probably wont have it until 1.1

    that will hold up very nicely with 1.1 wont it? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    given that HL only uses one processor, I suppose you could stick each server on each processor, with a high enough internal bandwidth and memory you should be OK, I'd just get two boxes though it'll be a lot better <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
