Is it worth it?
Is Plansetside worth getting? I've been following it since beta stages and it looks tight. I was wondering if anyone else has played it to share what they think of the game.

Well, I saw some pictures To me it looks like BF1942 in the future. What I mean by that is that you get to pilot vehicles and change weapons and such.

no... its kinda crap.. its like tribes 2 on valium combined with roleplayelements.. you start on a central airfield where dropships and fighters of your clan bring your squad to the continent(server) where the battle for the tower is.. the group who owns the tower controlls the terretory.. practically you play on a entire planet
theres also a puplic transport service for players without a clan.... its almost like a trainstation there..
planetside gets boring pretty fast.. most players spend their life in that game to boost their characters to max, to rape newbies with their big llamaguns

and the most awfull part is you have to pay for play on their servers.. damn sony

Save your money for something better. Like a person who will poke you in the ribs every minute on the dot in order to drive you insane. Even THAT is better than PlanetSide.

Buy a slice of caek because you will get more satisfaction out of it than Planetside.

PlanetSide is well worth the money, I was a beta-tester myself and really enjoyed the game. Little hard for the first time, but when you played it for a couple of weeks you can play it smooth without any trouble.

I agree yea its a good game but after a while its just as fun as anyother game you dont have to pay for. And think about it. $40 for the game then $12 a month.

After the first year you have spent 40+12x12= $184

Thats like the cost of 4 PC new PC games.

I played Planetside for many weeks/months and diden't get bored. Maybe because it is so much to do in the game and you can upgrade your caracther, aslo get exp. points for killing enemys or taking over bases/towers.

I LOVED tribes and i love futuristic shooter games. I will just wait until all the reviews come out for it then decide. But then I would have to decide between that and world of warcraft. DAMN PAY SERVER GAMES!

I was in the PS beta, so I can speak from experience rather than biased opinions. I wouldn't recommend it. Yes, its insanely neat being the first MMOFPS, and seeing 200 peeps in one area all fighting as a team against the enemy is downright awe inspiring.

But frankly, after about 3 weeks, it just gets old and repetative. You're doing the exact same thing every day. the exact same thing. Taking the same base, again, cause you lost it at about 6am while 1 guy came in when everybody else was sleeping and took the whole base...

So no, I wouldn't recommend it, not because of any subscription things, but because of some fundamental design flaws in the game... :(

More than half of the [TMM] clan have ditched Natural Selection for PlanetSide. JimHasSkillz is like, the only one that even practices anymore. I used to attend the practices for fun, but no one even comes anymore...
Honestly, it can't be that fun, can it?

Except, theres THOUSANDS ofpeople in one big war with low lag (supposidly) my friend had the beta, he said it was ill so im just gonna wait for him to buy it so i can jsut go over and play it instead of wasting 60$ along with the monthly fee but yea i would think its worth it, unless u like small, quiet at times games like these small stale mate HL mods. but if your into a BIG **** battle then i would get it... but of coure everyone has different tastes.

Planetside is like Heroin without the withdrawl symptoms.

You start playing it, maybe get a fighter and start buzzing bases, raining death. Sounds fun? Well it is.

But, eventually, the front line disintigrates, and it becomes just kill for the sake of killing. No epic sweeping pushes for continents, just BF1942/Tribes2.

And that, my friends, is not worth 13 a month. I playtested it, and I'm glad I did, it was fun. But, not worth paying for. Pick up Tribes 2 instead.

All you nay-sayers cannot convince me (power to the stubbornness!), I'm still giving it a try when it launches in Germany. I like Tribes, this can't be worse. And just the THOUGHT of being a professional carjacker drives me crazy!

Most of the day the lag is fine. But at peak times, dont expect to ge much done.

I played some of sony's other MMO games and basically after you get a really good charcter you eventually get virtually raped.

Gahhh... it just sounds so cool.

Plus, I was addicted to EverCrack for like 8 months, so I'm craving some of that SOE sweetness. Bleh, I want to try it, but I really can't ignore all you people saying it's bad. I'm thinking I'll prolly wait for WoW, too, but I wish I could try PS without having to pay for it.

Yeah, I'm really sorry all you guys who haven't played it, it is fun to experience once, Jacking a Galaxy from the enemy then using it to fly a squad over their own base, or getting 10 guys together and rolling 5 Vanguard tanks into a hotly contested base, and watching it as it goes quiet under it's 140mm guns....

It's great to experience once, but trust me, it'll probably be a waste after a month or two. I played it every spare moment I had for aout 3 weeks, and I couldn't stand to play anymore.

u just suck cforrester. I had a 83% success rate with my jacking.

Just to add my $0.02 here. Planetside is a game that you DEFINETLY have to try. But like the other guys said, you find that you're doing the same thing day in and day out. I was in the beta and had exactly 2 periods of time which I put the game down and played something else.

#1. I found out they were doing a character wipe the next day.

    #2. I reached BattleRank 14.

In both cases, I suddenly and without warning went from Planetside enthusiast to have ZERO interest in playing the game at all. I thought about it a bit and realized that I was ONLY playing to level up and get more skills. As soon as there was nothing to gain for my character by playing, I didn't want to play at all. Although I had an immensely joyous experience with the game up until those 2 moments. It's a must-try, but a don't-buy.

I really enjoyed trying out the open beta, but Planetside brings nothing to the table that I couldn't get from playing a fps or rts that isn't set up as a P2P system. If the initial price were lower, or if the server costs were lower, I'd play. As it stands now, they're leeching way too much money to make it worth my while. It's an economics thing, they get more money from fewer people, or less money from lots of people. The former works best when you have to pay for servers (less people, less load).

    its not worth getting.

its fun for a week or three, but then its all downhill from there. I won't list specifics, there are far more cons than pros.
