    it lacks color info, if the colors looked smoother it would be quite nice. I like the idea.

    I would have said targa but it didnt take 1 min to download...
    Then maybe JPEG, but the quality is good...
    BMP, nahhh, not for a pic of that detail...
    GIF maybe, WOW.... Such colour depth and detail from a arsey format

    They should have encoded that with JPEG or PNG. Gif can be used for high colour files, but because of palettes, it would be higher in filesize compared to the equivalent in a lossy compression type. Gif is a good format for certain images (small, safe colour, paletted, web published graphics, etc).

    Do not hate .gif files just because everyone else does. They are damn useful in preserving specific colours or detail, and for saving smaller images.

    I was gonna say .txt format, but then gif.. cus alot of people have been changing their images to .txt format to keep it in good quality

    If you have a good image converter .gif can be many times as good as an .jpg, especially if you only have a few colors.

    There are plenty of cases where .jpg is better to use than .gif, but there are equally amount of cases where .gif is preferred.
