yay, more proof that the public education system does not teach what it should, it teaches theories, facts, and numbers, not real life experience.
school is another brainwashing facility, just like organized religion.

I'm planning on teaching philosophy or theology, i'll be sure to print this thing out and keep it with me, keep remembering it.
I think it's just a crime against humanity that all public schooling does it teach how to get a better job, make some money, and continue mediocre existance. Even if it were to "teach" with such efficiency that it enabled every motiveated student to obtain the american dream, it would do nothing if it did not instill upon youth a hunger for something deeper than the coffers they may collect in the future.
Language arts, possibly, does the better job of planting a seed than any other subject, but it still exhibits a fundemental flaw:
The teachings are the teachings of other men, of other poets, of other geniuses. If one wishes to become inspired, fine. If one wishes to strive to follow in the footsteps of those "great" men, so be it. But being published, being inspiring, is not the same as being great. beign a great man, being a great human being, is about finding what you believe in and defending it until you are bloodied with those who wish to strip you of it. I'm not a postmodernist, I don't think that everything is relative as far as each individual. I believe in absolute truths, like God, like His perception of Good and Evil, but I also feel very strongly that it is the choice of the individual person, the individual soul wether they will embrace thsoe ideas or not.
Will I be overjoyed if they come to know He who I regard as my savior? Will I pray for them if they do not? Of course. But it is not my place to change their heart.
It should be my place to make them feel like they must find their heart. Which, of course, goes back to the original point. The heart, the soul, is more important than a person's place in the socio-economic matrix.
Rant off.

Not all organized religion is corrupt, Burr, only that which teaches ritual over belief.
Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
bah, im just bitter becasue my ex considered herself "christian", but she drank to excess and ended up cheating on me more than once.
Actually, your sig says it all legionarred, thats the way I feel.
Back to the topic, "everything I need to know in life I learned in kndergarten", which is kind of true. Public schooling eventually turns into laern more math, learn more history, blah blah....
the best teachers were the ones who made me think for myself.
Didn't catch everything through the first run down, but a great read! I myself have learned absolutely nothing this school year; not even better work habits even. I'm one of the few (if not, the only one) to not join with my friends and every person I know of and head to a university. Not that my marks aren't too shabby, but I'm more sure than ever that I want to become an artist of some sort. If we were made "in the likeness of God", then I think the one trait that everyone of us starts off with is the passion to create things. I'll either be heading into a technical school, or art college. No doubt, I still find it a little scary, especially being the lone person taking this path, but I feel that I'll be more fulfilled taking this path than any other.
I think elementry schools need to focus more on reading writing and math. I mean there is no real point in ever teaching history to a children that age because they don't see grey only black and white at that age. There isint much of a point to science if you havent atleast have had algebra. 1 or 2 not sure <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Schools arent were parents should exspect there kids to learn how to live thier life. Schools are just so they can be a productive part of society IMO.
I disagree. Some people are born with the desire to destroy. In fact, most babies are this way. Do an experiment and set 2 blocks on top of each other and 2 blocks adjacent to each other (not stacked) next to a baby. At the earliest age that babies can control movement, they will purposely knock down the 2 stacked and ignore the other 2. Kids love knocking over sandcastles etc.
The more sophisticated you get, the more you enjoy making art and building elaborate novels or sculptures. It comes with a better understanding of the world we live in. God has been around for quite a while, so I imagine he is quite the creator (as we've obviously seen).
