Bugs In Windows

<div class="IPBDescription">making me mad</div> You know what I hate in windows? When a window opens, it's not maximized (it's sizable, etc) but it's the size of a maximized window. I usually just throw my cursor as far up-right as it goes to close a window, but if this happens, I end up closing the window behind it. ARGH.

Another thing I hate is the feature where windows hides things on a menu that you don't use. Ever notice how the things that are hidden are always what you NEED to use? How can I turn this off?

I also hate when things on the taskbar, such as IMs, flash orange even after I've opened and closed them. For example someone IMs me, the thing flashes, so I click it, read the message, and then minimize... but it keeps flashing, so I have to open it a second time and keep it open for a while until it works. ARGH!

Done for now.

    I would like to point out that all of those are not 'bugs in windows' but instead poor ui on the softwares fault.

    Well as for hidden options in menus, let me look meh after 1 min of looking I don't care enugh to find it (I actualy find this option nice)

    you do realize the you most frequently ussed programs are the ones you see. There probably is a way to disable this, if you REALLY care that much, go ask MSoft <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As for disabling that 'hidden menu' thing, I think it might depend on what version you're using. I'm going to assume it's basically the same for all (I'm using win2000).

    - right-click on the taskbar > Properties
    - uncheck the 'Use Personalized Menus' option

    Done <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    i thought he meant the file menu in word xp, the only things visible are save as and new. seriously, theres a shortcut for print and save, and what else would you do in a file menu? good thing to, because my warezed microsoft word is not in english, i only know the icons for save and print.

    Oh... yeah, that's possible too. Never thought of that... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--><!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm not sure how to 'fix' that. I remember spending some time trying to find out <i>how</i> once though, but then realized it'd be easier to just learn the keyboard shortcuts. Once you know how to quickly save using "alt-f-s", why bother doing something as primitive as 'clicking' something?? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    try tweakxp or tweakui, it has a nice interface for a thousand options you didnt know windows had, one of which has got to include disabling that "feature".

    They are not bugs, they are features...which is pretty much the same when we are talking about windows <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I love how all these things are described as bugs. Windel is the reason I can charge people $75 an hour to work on corporate computing...

    1. Windows usually start in the position that you closed them in. If you wanted to start explorer maximised, for example, run it, open it to max size, then exit it. It will start maxmised next time. But it depends on the app, and especially if it's not one that came with your OS. If you have some apps that you are always starting and want maxed, right-click its shortcut, then click properties. Select under run the setting of 'Maximised'.

    2. The Winows start menu (in Win2000 or XP) default to personalised (as people said above). Turn it off as was described. If you want to do the same for MS Office, it's always under 'Tools | Customize | 'Show Full Menus'.

    3. The flashing IM issue is more an issue of your IM software, and doesn' reallyhave anything to do with windows.

    And of course, all of your questions could have been solved with a bit of legwork at the

    hehe, as I said all are simple fixes <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Infact I actualy like the non full menues if I want to see it it takes about .5 secs to get at the ones I can't see.... then again I never use em so...

    yah.

    Hey MonsE, can I have your job <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    no, I still think the first one is a bug! I will have something maximized and then when I open it later it might be maximum-size-but-not-maximized. Seriously!

    Even if you alter the shortcut like I said?

    Which program is it, and have you downloaded any plugin or add-on for it? The computer used by the rest of my family is loaded with enough spyware (they don't have a clue what they're doing) that I recall IE having this problem some time ago.

    If XP is running slow go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall XP Hotfix 811493

    Thats the MS patch that makes everything slow down for some reason.

    Without it your system will run like something fast again!

    I hate bugs in windows too. Especially flies that bounce back and forth and buzz and make that annoying rattling sound but you know if you open the window to kill it, it will just get in your house. And getting the bugs out of the windowsil...wooo! Someone would make a fortune if they could design a window that made cleaning that thing out.

    indeed. I find it quite surprising that a fly can go into your house with no windows open, but can't figure out how to go out with all of your windows open.
