Introductions In Off-topic

p4Samwisep4Samwise Join Date: 2002-12-15 Member: 10831Members
<div class="IPBDescription">branch from "I'm a girl"</div> I tried to PM the relevant mod with this question but the boards choked on it for some reason, so I'll just post it here for all to reflect on.

The description of the Off-Topic forum in the forum index says:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Introduce yourself.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So why do introductions not belong in the Off-Topic forum? Should the wording on the forum index be changed so we don't confuse and alienate new posters? Discuss. Or ridicule me for my dumb question.

    if there is a thread dedicated to this topic, such as introductions, then no other "Hi I am new" threads should be opened.....
    trust me, I modded at a horrible board, notorious for this sort of thing......

    So perhaps the title of the "Off-Topic" forum should be changed not to include "Introduce yourself"? If I were new to these forums, I'd be pretty turned off if I clicked on a link labeled "introduce yourself", introduced myself, and then got slapped with a lock for introducing myself.

    well maybe there should either be another one added to this forum, since it says you should, or the old one moved here......
    I personally am for making a new one..... although its scary how many stickies are at the top of these forums @_@

    That's why I introduced myself here... Until a mod moved it to New Players forum. =\

    That lock confused me as well. I've seen people introduce themselves in this forum a bunch of times, and the welcome wagon usually pulls up with helpful hints and words of greeting lickety-split.

    because of the WAY that person introduced him/herself.... If it broke the 6 word barrier I bet a mod woulda left it alone <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    relevant as always liku... I agree that either introductions should be allowed in Off-Topic, or that the rules should be changed. Hopefully a mod or someone sees this...

    I don't see how any off-topic posts are locked for content, the only real reason they should be locked are

    <ul>
    <li>Spamming With Absolutely NO Point
    <li>Flaming Someone
    <li>Bringing Up Sensitive Topic (Example: Iraq)
    <li>Doesn't Fit PG-13 (Example: Pr0n)
    </ul>

    How can anything be too off-topic for the off-topic forum?

    i don't see anything wrong with posting introduction threads in this forum...
    i won't see anything wrong with it until 'introducing yourself' is removed from the main page off-topic forum info.

    so until then... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Off-Topic does not mean No-Topic.

    If Samwise had posted a thread entitled "Hi, i am a boy", with no content, even though he has been a forum member for months, that would have gone too.

    What if i was to post a thread entitled "New movie! Hot Fam on Fam XXX action! " ?

    i don't know that person...i don't even know if that she is really a she. but anyway >_<
    what if that person registered but never posted anything til then, that part is possible.
    i don't think the thread grew enough to let anyone really know about that person. given when someone introduces themselves they give basic information. i'm sure it would've came out eventually.

    Me either...

    Now... that girl posted, "Hi I'm and girl." in this topic, WHICH MEANS, she's introducing herself to the NS Community as a player. Posting in the "New Players" forum would mean she's new to NS. She could have been playing NS for hella long before posting.

    To be honest, I don't think people would have let that thread go anywhere other than 'OMG a girl olo', as it was on its way to anyhow. If you want to discuss it anymore, PM me, this thread is getting amazingly pointless too.
