...or something like that
I want to make custom textures for my NS map, but alas my texture making skills blows goats. I have been able to find literaly hundreds of sites on the internet with photoshop tutorials, but most of them apply to making graphics for web pages and not about making game textures.
What I need is links to tutorial sites dealing specificly with texture creation for games.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Just tell me what sort of texture you are trying to create, and I will make it, and then tell you the steps I went through to create it. I do all my texturing from scratch within Photoshop, so no base pictures, or hand drawn stuff will be required.
Good luck with your texturing
Thanks a lot, the tutorial on making metal has to be one of the better ones i've seen. Certainly yeilds some of the best results. I am defintetly going to use this one.

I appreciate your offer, though I don't want you to take time away from your day to make a bunch of example textures for me. But, if you would be so kind these are the textures I'm having trouble with. 1) The basic run-of-the-mill corroded metal wall with water and rust stains. (I've managed to make some that looked okay, I'm not bad at making rust.) I have a hard time of making walls with insets that look good (they either are too plain or too busy), and most of the time the lines used for the insets aren't strong enough and hence don't really have an impact on the texture. So if you could show me how to make such a texture focusing on those specific faults of mine, that would be great. 2) similarly I am having trouble making support beam and grate textures that have both detail and good shading.
Also, when I attempt to make textures I notice that in editor/game they are very bright, even after I have reduced the brightness. I was just wondering about what level of brightness should textures be at for an atmosphere that fits with NS. I also seem to have trouble with color matching between and in textures, which oft yeilds rather ugly results, any pointers in this are would also be appreciated.
I know I ask a lot, and I don't expect you to answer everyting, but I am greatfull for any help that you or anyone else can give me in these specific areas.
thanks.
of course be kind when asking and use numbers. as in
1) request balh blah blah bah! with whatever. and include sizes. and be prepared to make minor adjustments of your own.
as for brightness level, trial and error. check the gamma of your graphics program.
i haven't made too many textures for ns, so i am clueless. you can always take the textures from other wads and use those to compare.
good luck, have fun.

They have 800 tutorials for photoshop alone, but I'm afraid I don't have time to scan through them..
