    What so that is now really an exploit?

    Well I'll just have to try and find servers that don't have this thing now...

    Flying super-skulks, an exploit? Noooo............

    Nice plugin, hope it does all you said. I hate getting nuked on servers for using the normal leap twice in a row.

    Have fun; we won't miss you. Here's a hint: if you're circumventing designed-in limitations to gain an advantage, you're exploiting. You know full well that leap is supposed to make noise, and is supposed to drain some of your energy. Just because there's a way to leap without those two drawbacks doesn't mean it's okay to use it.

    bah I don't know these:

    -bunnyhop
    -silent bunnyhop
    -silent leap/ leap exploit

    And I don't even want to learn them. I just hate it when people say "it's not an exploit it's a skill"
  • Eternal_BlissEternal_Bliss Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7633Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    Leap exploit is hardly a skill, a simple "something"(so people wont wont know what to check for)

    Well first time I saw it, that's what I heard, it wasn't a hack or exploit. I've told many people how to do it (in game) and will continue doing it as long as I can.

    when the majority of people on the server and server ops forum call it a exploit, then I'm fairly certain it's an exploit.....

    There is a leap-related exploit currently in use. Both the exploit and this plugin have been made aware to Flayra.

    I do believe Nano-Gridlock will be running this plugin also.

    We welcome you to return when you've grown up, and can decide for yourself what's ethical behavior and what's not. If you really need to be told whether everything you do is okay or not, here you go:

    Silent, no-drain leaping is an exploit. It is not okay to do it. Doing it, and telling others how to do it, is unethical.

    Now I'm sad (sarcasm)

    Anyway, I play as marines most of the time now so it's not like I'm gonna get much of a chance to use it. And I've... <i>grown up</i> knowing this as a feature and not an exploit. So I guess I'll just have to take my sweet time letting it sink in my head. I figure maybe I'll understand this by the time 1.1 is out and no sooner.

    By the way, do you seriously think this is unfair on Siege005 where aliens lose 90% of the time without any plugins?

    so by using exploits you will win? sigh.
    exploits are as bad as cheats.
    and i dont get how someone can think it's a feature ;/
    siege is a fooling map, an un balanced map but i have won many times as aliens in it, if you cant win that means you need to use exploits? sigh.

    Using it "just a little" doesn't make it any less of an exploit.

    <!--QuoteBegin--Freak83+Apr 10 2003, 07:09 PM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Freak83 @ Apr 10 2003, 07:09 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->And I've... <i>grown up</i> knowing this as a feature and not an exploit.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Features are intentional design choices and implementations. Exploits are unintentional bugs that permit game behavior contrary to the design. Do you seriously believe that this exploit is actually a "secret feature for those 'elite' enough to hear about it"? Just like "stopcommandermode", right? Sheesh.

    <!--QuoteBegin--Freak83+Apr 10 2003, 07:09 PM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Freak83 @ Apr 10 2003, 07:09 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->So I guess I'll just have to take my sweet time letting it sink in my head.  I figure maybe I'll understand this by the time 1.1 is out and no sooner.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Witty. Or not. You've just admitted that the leap exploit is not an intentional feature, and that you're abusing it knowingly.

    <!--QuoteBegin--Freak83+Apr 10 2003, 07:09 PM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Freak83 @ Apr 10 2003, 07:09 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->By the way, do you seriously think this is unfair on Siege005 where aliens lose 90% of the time without any plugins?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    It is an exploit. By definition, it is cheating, no matter what the circumstances. Yes, cheating. Now that you're been made full aware that the Leap Bug is an exploit, and that it's not acceptable to use it, by using it in the future, you will be cheating. I beseech you to not cheat.

    Actually first time I saw this myself I accused the people of using it to be hackers or exploiters. It was in Siege005 and they said it was a server feature. So next game I went aliens (yes I used another console command, not an exploit though) and asked how to do it myself. So they told me and then I tried it, for the next few days a few new people would always come into the server and we would always have to explain that it was a server feature on that server on that map. Well that's what I thought at the time anyhow. A while later I saw someone do it on Tanith and tried it there, yeah it worked so eventually I figured out when it works and when it doesn't. And now I come onto these forums and I learn that this is an exploit. So here's my thoughts:

    1) Well after believing it's a feature for so long do you really think I'm going to be happy to find out this is <i>cheating</i>? I'd call it defending for what I believe in.

    2) I've had a bad day today and want to annoy people on purpose.

    3) I'm not usually like this anyway, (refer to 2)

    4) I never used stopcommandermode when I could have very easily.

    5) Yes, I don't share on Kazaa either as I'm sure this would have come up sooner or later.

    6) I'm using it less and less often when I play as alien. Maybe I don't want to be kicked/banned, I'd probably hardly ever use it now, now that it's been announced as an official exploit. Before, people just figured it to be an exploit, so I probably wouldn't have a chance to explain that it was a feature (so I thought) and would just get kicked/banned.

    7) While I'm on the topic of banning, does Voogro have some kind of server bug? Before this thing was even known about, I was playing a friendly game on Eclipse, I was alien, we had three hives. And I was playing as fairly as any alien. So we win, we all go to the ready room, say gg and then it says "You have been banned perminantly on this server". I doubt any admin would ban a person for no reason at all, so I figure it must have some kind of bug? What do you think?

    Probably the most pathetic thing I've ever heard that.

    Thank you EB and Hullu for spending your time and effort to rectify this problem. Clearly leaping (as a two hive ability) is meant to cost energy (just as bite does) and make a sound (oooh, wait a minute... bite again anyone?)

    To experienced leapers like me, this sort of exploit (were it a feature) could have been completely devastating. Thankfully, the majority of people see enough sense and have enough dignity not to cheat, so thanks once again for helping us eradicate those few who decide they're not good enough by normal standards.

    I mean jeez, he's basically saying this:

    "What do you mean, smashing people's faces in with a sledgehammer is an exploit?? It must be a feature of the sledgehammer otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it! It's a feature man!"
  • PetitMortePetitMorte Join Date: 2002-11-06 Member: 7232Members
    I think that the sledgehammer is WAY overbalanced! It should DEFINITELY be nerfed in 1.1!

    Check out these numbers:
    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
                   Skulk     Gorge     Lerk    Fade    Onos

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Hammer
    hits              1           1            1         1          50
    to
    annoy
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    MC Hammer

    reach
    Top10**
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    * it actually only takes 1 hit to kill a Lerk with a sledgehammer,
    but you gotta make at LEAST 7 swipes before you can hit the flappy f**kers.

    ** "Hammer Time" and "2 Legit 2 Quit"
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

    See? I even had to create a special map just for this test!

    Also, if you use a special key combination (down,down,up,up,left,right,left,right,A,A,B,B,Start) and spin around 3 times, you can use the "Olympic Mode" exploit and THROW the hammer for distance!

    Comon Flayra! Fix this before it destroys your whole game and makes all of the entire NS community hate you!

    The Konami code had several variations on the same basic theme. The Contra one was "UUDDLRLRBA". Every time I type that, a voice in my head echos the ending "<select> <start>". Too much late-night, two-player Contra...

    Good humor there PetitMorte. For some reason, I got flashbacks of using the SuperSledge in Fallout...
