Need Help With Mandrake 9.0 Ns Server 1.04

DaedalusDaedalus Join Date: 2003-04-02 Member: 15152Members
When I try to run an NS dedicated server I get:
<i>FATAL ERROR (shutting down): Mod_NumForName: models/player/alien1/alien1.mdl not found.</i>

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

    Looks like the model for skulk can't be found... 2 recommendations:
    Check to make sure that the model really is there
    Re-install NS

    Sorry, that's all the help i can give

    ive gotten NS working on both Slackware and RedHat 9 but havn't tried Mandrake yet. So far it seems to run the best on Slackware but that does sound like a specific file problem. If you have any other problems you can pm me or may i suggest moving to Slackware <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I tried reinstalling, but got the same error, so i reinstalled without the patch and everything worked fine. Then i kept the models from the first install and installed the rest of the patch, and now it gets
    <i>FATAL ERROR (shutting down): Mod_NumForName: models/player/soldier/soldier.mdl not found. </i><!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ive spent a little too much time trying to get mandrake to work properly to change over at the moment, but maybe if all else fails ill change over.

    If it's the patch that's causing you headaches, try this:

    Don't use "unzip -a", or whatever your unzip's "convert end-of-line characters" flag is. That's the cause of many problems. Lots of unzippers mistakenly determine that the binaries in the patch are text files, and bugger them up good.

    i've never had a problem with unzip -a as unzip detects binary and text files.

    In theory, yes. I have had false-positive detections of text files before though, and have helped others with the same problem, hence my suggestion. I'll have to dig to find out which authors' unzips are the troublemakers.

    Here's my suggestion, get rid of mandrake, oh, and if you've gone with a company called serverxtreme, bail!

    Ok, i redownloaded all of the files for my ns server, but now it can't "find" the maps.

    Mandrake is fine with all the other mods ive tried, cs, dod, si, but it doesnt like ns <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
