Counter that JP/HMG rush?
Well we all know how hopeless it is when up against a decent marine team who knows how to tech. I tried this once and well it seemed to work. So you guys can give it a shot and see if it works. Mind you i recommend you do it on a server where people know you. When i did it the aliens wanted to ungorge me. Luckly I am immune to the plug-in commands.

Webs.
Web the ceiling like you would on the floor. Why? 1st off it's harder to spot. 2nd, well when you fly around in JPs your head is usually skimming off the ceiling.

2 Gorges.
1 caps RTs and will put up UPGs. Other just saves up res. Get 3 movs asap and other gorge(who's been savin up res) goes Onos with adren.

Onos.
You only have 1 role now other than staying alive. You are on hive defense. How? Paralyse. You let the skulks eat down the JP/HMGers. Onos just brings em all down out of the air. Now you should be able to hold em off long enough for the rest of the team to get Fades or whatever they want.

Give it a shot. You should be able to get onos seconds after the door opens. NO MORE than 2 gorges or you wont be able to get Onos in time. Onos needs to survive.

Let's see some feedback

Very nice. I like the web on ceiling 'cause most jp fly while welding in front of them.

Nice idea. The JPers won't weld while flying if they don't see the webs. And the onos issue is the only thing to do. THe same thing applies to missilecommand. If you can get an onos waiting at the top the jetpackers are dead.

On missilecommand, if you get all three hives up, marines are dead due to xenociding skulks dropping from above. Almost all skulks will always detonate without getting killed first, because you can initiate the timer while falling, and thus explode as soon as you reach the target. The protolab goes down fast, followed by everything else. Nothing can stop this.

Not that aliens ever GET 3 hives on missilecommand, what with the marine tech tree being faster than the alien one.

    "Fun" maps tend to suck.

Once one guy in my team said: ho hmgs until 3rd hive on missilecommand. We won.

Small problem. I did it and survied just long enough for them to put seige in and kill us all. We couldnt get out because of thier relocation to the bunker.

Missile command is a whole different animal. Most of the time the game is over before you even get the second hive all the way up.

I like the siege onos idea tho, very out of the box.

Am I missing something here? Isn't the whole "problem" with JP/HMG's that they often come before the seond hive is up, ie: no webs?

After the second hive is up JP/HMG's are not a problem. Webs, umbra, Fades, adrenaline spikes... snuh?

Aliens start with 3 hives on siege.

fun maps can be fun, it's just that people decide to use lama strategies in them, and not just have battle royal....

Ok, the point of siege (IMO) Is to get the marines to get the bunker, and no upgrades, drop an armor and an ip, load up on ammo and maybe a few shotguns and sit in the bunker using only primary weapons to push back skulks. Now thats fun, imo. Both for the skulks and the marines. (Skulks get upgrades, marines dont, turns into starship trooper(ish) and its so fun)
    **edit**
One onos per wave provides a bit more fun. The onos is the leader, who paralized charging troops, so that the fade sharpshooters can pick them off or the lerks can swoop in and eat them...

    (6 skulks, 2 lerks, 2 fades, 1 onos, 1 gorge = fun as hell)

You mean that spot where the doors open or you mean the seige room itself?

For the seige room, you really should have the gorge build a wall of DCs next to the glass in the hive room. Stack em up one on top of each other. Then you can have a fade blink across the map and get into the seige room and fend off all the attacks alone.

6 DCs and 3 hives all healing him thru the window will make him near impossible to kill.

Those DCs there are as crucial as the initial paralysing Onos.

Well, we wanted to give the aliens a chance. Si I (as the comm) gave a lot of jps but no HMGs. I gave heavy armor to one guy to deal with the skulk rain and protect the base. As soon as the third hive finished building everyone had hmgs and it went down

Don't forget to use teh secret room! It's just fun slapping all your chambers down in there.
  • AmorphousAmorphous Join Date: 2002-12-20 Member: 11249Members
Until you get 4 marines against one gorge, all droping grenades down the hole. Then it gets to the point where you kill yourself.
