<div class="IPBDescription">messing around</div> not really ns related, but I been trying out new colouring styles with all dif art programs. I found this layer colouring on adobe to be quite effective. what ya think?
layer coloring as in setting the above layer to "color"? the picture looks like you took the lines, set em to multiply possibly, then colored beneath them? it looks pretty good, very smooth, fluid. i'm guessing you used the airbrush as opposed to burn and dodge? spiffy.
yup thats exactly what i did <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
started off as a scanned pic, well still to me looks like ascnaned drawing, only coloured nicer

Nice work, Kylie!! I've actually never used Dodge and Burn for shading; both of the tutorials I've found on the web have made use of layers set to different blending modes instead, which I think gives a much more controllable result.
The first tutorial I used is <a href='http://www.machall.com/indexcontent.php?doshow=info_art' target='_blank'>here</a>. It was written by Ian McConville, the artist who draws <a href='http://www.machall.com' target='_blank'>MacHall</a>. I used this technique in all of my <a href='http://www.princeton.edu/~danj/doodles01.html' target='_blank'>early photoshop coloring</a>.
Ian himself recently linked another tutorial for "comic book-style coloring," <a href='http://www.steeldolphin.com/tutorials_digitalcolor.php' target='_blank'>here</a>. I just tried out my first drawing using these techniques. He uses the gradient tool extensively, which takes some getting used to, but after a little touching up and fine-tuning with the paintbrush and eraser (at very low opacities), I am quite happy with <a href='http://www.princeton.edu/~danj/shiny/michaeljoy.jpg' target='_blank'>the result</a>.
very good <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> that gives the pic lots more depth..

My first attempt at colouring. I used the burn and dodge method for the shading. And I did it in Fireworks MX <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
very nice <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
heres an older pic i did with jasc paint shop pro, tools i used is dodge and burn, and lighten and darken for the shading. the background was made up by a series of layers
