heres a question you have waste handling, and you have fusion waste has defense associated with it fusion has movement you lose fusion. but you take sat com can you build move at sat com? or is it stuck to fusion and you have to go sensory?
unless you lost your dc hive. if you lose your dc hive its better to continue with dc and forego sc. made that mistake once and we found out we couldnt take out the other teams base without dcs backing. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
your new hive will automaticaly take the tech of whatever hive isn't taking the space for it.. so you'll be forced to use movement.. no sensory till you get your third hive up
We seem to have contradictory answers in this thread, so I ran a LAN game to confirm what I suspected. If you lose a hive that has an upgrade associated with it you still have access to abilities granted by said upgrade as long as the appropriate towers still exist (new towers cannot be built however). Furthermore when you build your next hive you can choose to associate either the upgrade that was previously assigned to the now defunct hive OR you can choose to go with the third upgrade giving your team access to all three abilities with only two hives.
As the thread indicates the real question is when it would be appropriate to go for X on the next hive when the Hive associated with Y goes down (X and Y being the different upgrade types).

That is from the 1.04 patch changes (The patch which you wont have if you are running a LAN without new server files). That quote sounds like it supports rion's post, personnally i can't test this at the moment because i'm stuck at work. I'm just pointing out the possible potholes you could have fallen into when testing on a LAN.
I should have stated this in my original post, but my brain doesn't seem to function at 100% after I get off of work...
When I ran the LAN game I was running with the v1.04 patch files installed. That said I also used sv_cheats 1 so I could build the hives and chambers, evolve, switch sides to kill the hive, etc. And who knows if messing with the sv_cheats variable affected my results.
But I will also say that I swear I've seen exactly what my LAN game demonstrated while playing on 1.04 servers before. However I'm having a heck of a time remembering exactly how the situation resolved itself.

movement comes in handy when those pesky marines insist on attacking your hives, and your at the point of the map farthest from the hive under attack, but you shouldn't be able to build the chamber associated w/ the hive if the hive is down
